View Full Version : Have you used the 'Move' program?
Just sold the house yesterday and will be moving in about five weeks. I'm curious as to how D*'s moving program works. I understand that I take my receivers with me and call to have a new dish installed, etc. What happens with the dish at my current house? Do they send somebody out to remove it and the cables? Anything else I need to be aware of?
Thanks.

Leave the dish at your old place....they're hoping the person who moves in next will want to sign up for Directv since they already have the dish installed.
Worked great when i moved. Just set up the move before i moved. They stop service at your old place the day you specify...you pack up and move (your recievers)....When you get in they show up (when you tell them to) install a new dish, run lines if necessary...you hook up your recievers and you're on. It was really easy, and best of all it's free.
I used the program on our last move and wouldn't hesitate to do use it again. Sure, it all depends on how good your local installer is, but the one around here is excellent.

I'll second that emotion. I used the opportunity to upgrade to HD, too. :D

I just used it last week for a local move. Went awesome. They hooked up 3 rooms with 2 lines to each one. Took the guy almost all day.
I tipped him a $20 and he seemed surprised, but I thought it was money well spent as he did a professional job and it didn't cost me anything.
I would recommend it.

It sucked because I moved into a short term apartment when I moved to the DC area. When I found a house, and called them to move again, they told me they wouldn't do it because I had already moved earlier within the same year. I ended up calling a million installers until I found a guy who would come and do it for some MAJOR money.

That's what I did in 2001, but the previous owners of the house left ALL of their equipment. I just reactivated the equipment. As a matter of fact, I still have one of the recievers.

As everyone said, the Movers Connection program works great. Just pack up your receivers and leave everything else behind and they do the install at your new house. The install at my new place didn't get 100% smoothly, but after calling back DirecTV, they had someone come out and get everything fixed, so I would definitely use it again if I were to move again (however, I hope that's a long time away).

Worked great for me, they already had a 2-LNB dish at my new place, had it upgraded to 3-LNB when I moved here because I had the HR10-250.
Worked great for me as well. I already had a dish on the roof in the new house, all the guy had to do was add one more receiver and line to it.

The movers connection works very well as long as they have good installers in your new area. D* allows one free move per year.

In the 13+ years that I have been with D*, I have moved a couple of times and never used the 'Movers' program (I have always installed my own dishes) but will be doing it with this next move. Everyone I know who has taken advantage of the program has been real happy.
Wow, I'm happy to hear all of the positive feedback! :)
Thanks for all the replies. I hope my move goes as well as all of yours.
I've used it twice. As others have mentioned, the quality of your experience will entirely depend on the quality of your local installer.
The most recent time, I paid the installer $100 cash and helped him for about 4 hours to get lines fished from the dish to my switch in the basement media closet, and from there to fish lines to 2 boxes on the main level and one box on the 2nd floor. Guy was VERY good at what he did.

DID VERYONE KEEP THEIR BILLING ADDRESS TO KEEP EAST OR WEST COAST FEEDS. Can you keep local feeds also with a move, say like chicago when you move to boonies in wisconsin?
One thing I still wonder about, just out of curiosity. Does D* remove the dish and cables if the new owner doesn't sign up. I assume so, but.............?

I don't think D* does anything about removing dishes/cabling. Technically, that equipment is owned by the customer, not D*. If the new owner of the house doesn't want the dish/cables, it's up to them to get rid of it.

My move went ok. It's an installer thing. Add 2 years to your commitment, though.
My old dish and cables stayed. The cable were well placed and there were lots of them. The new owner had the 3lnb replaced with a slimline. I think he's happy.

The installer is supposed to update your service address after the installation is completed. If your service address is in the same DMA, then you'll keep your locals obviously.
I suppose if the installer doesn't specify a new service address and the CSR doesn't ask, it might not get changed. If that happens, is the end user at fault for "breaking the rules"? I mean, how many consumers know about DMAs and carriage rules and all that stuff?

Another satisfied customer of the movers connection here. Used them a few years ago with mo problems.
