OK, just wondering if anyone has gotten the FAP yellow lights to stay off. I downloaded the software before hooking up the FAP to the HR20, and turned them off via the program on the computer, but they came back on once I connected it up to the HR20. Sure I could use tape to cover them, I know that. They aren't bugging me, but figure it would have to drop the temp of the device a few degrees, which can't hurt. Anyone with any success?

I'll take the lack of responses, yet many views, as a "no" to anyone who has gotten the lights to turn off and stay off on the FAP.
You could probably open the unit up and disconnect the lights as well.

I think I'm done "pressing my luck" with surgical instruments, as I had to trim the monoprice eSata cable to get it to work in the first place. Besides, I guess since Seagate has a great warranty (5 yr), there is no reason to give them an option to deny warranty just because I wanted the light out just to save a little heat. Thanks.

I have gotten the lights to stay off on the 2 FAP 750s that I bought. Make sure after you turn them off while connected to you PC that you remove the drive and not just unplug. That could affect the results.

This is exactly what happened to me. I really do not want to go through the trouble of disconnecting it and re-connecting it to the PC to try again. I have learned to live with the light.

How did you connect them to your PC? eSATA or USB?
I hooked mine up USB to my PC and turned off the lights... then removed the drive, unplugged all the cables and hooked it up to my HR20. As soon as I had the cable connected to HR20 and FAP, the light came back on. I'm wondering if connected eSATA to the PC if it would remain off when connected eSATA to the HR20..???

I hooked them up via USB.

Well, based on this input, I tried again. This time, I left the FAP electrical plug plugged in where its final "resting place" will be. I hooked up my laptop with the FAP software on it via USB to the FAP, with the eSata still connected to the HR20, and the computer didn't find the drive. I then put the HR20 into standby, and pulled the eSata plug on the FAP. The computer instantly recognized the drive, and using the software, I got the lights to turn off. I then pulled the USB cable out, plugged back in the eSata, and then rebooted the HR20. Lights are off now. I think not "cycling" the electrical plug might be the key???
I just put a black strip of tape over the lights:)

The light has been off now for a few hours, and the FAP drive feels slightly cooler to the touch on the outside--still very warm, but not quite as warm. Nothing scientific to prove it, could also be my imagination.

Try black electrical tape to cover the lights.

Not sure if this will work, I haven't tried it on mine, I like the light. There is a utilities application that comes with the drive that will allow you turn the lights off completely.
I don't know if this app will remain on the drive after your connect to the HR20. You will have to connect the drive to your PC first to set up the utility.:)
