View Full Version : trouble with a 1000
I have an old 1000 model reciever that hasn't been used in about 2 years. I want to set one of my friends up with it. So I took the extra dish 500 that I had when I bought my pvr 501. (I already had a dish 500 from my 4900) Ok, we mounted it check everything we have a good line of site bla bla bla. Well I can't get the 1000 to even pick up a signal (I am very confident the reciever is good, it worked when it was turned off and has been stored very well)....Now I was reading on one of the info sites that the new dishpro lnbf's only work on 301's and up. So is this my problem?? The dish that came with the pvr (which i am trying to use with the 1000) came with 2 seperate lnbf's and sw21 switchs.

You got it - the DP LNB's ONLY work on 301, 501/508 & 721 units. You could switch your LNB's to the DP, then give your friend the sep LNB's/SW21's & it'll work fine.

You've got a couple of choices here -
#1 - Replace the DishPRO LNB's with Legacy LNB's , probably use 2 Dual LNB's and a SW21
#2 - Get a DishPro-to-legacy adapter. However, since your 1000 has been out of the stream for 2 years, it may not even recognize this.
My preference would be #1.
PS - your 4900 would also need the Dishpro-to-Legacy adapter.
Also since your 1000 has been out for 2 years, it MAY NOT be able to upgrade - I'd hook it up at your place first to see.
let me make sure i have this correct..the dish i am trying to use for the 1000 has 2 lnb's one for 119 and one for 110 and a sw21 (this dish came with my pvr). so you guys are telling me that it won't work that i need to get a legacy LNB's. Would the dish I have Installed at my house that I got with my 4900 have legacy lnb's??

adsman - your inexperiance is showing here - you're not being very clear on exactly what you have. Your first post is saying something about DIshpro LNB's, but your last post has nothing of the kind !
If your last post is to be beleived, that is the ideal for use with the 1000. (Which is exactly my point #1 in my first post). IN this case, I'd say you don't have your dish pointed correctly. The best way to do this is to hook the 119 LNB directly to a receiver, then get the dish pointed. After this, 110 should be "automatic" - just put in the SW21 and the 110 and do a "Check Switch Test" on the Multi Dish pointing screen.
let's try this again
1. I bought a pvr 501. It came with a dish that has two lnb's and a sw21 switch. (is this dishpro lnb's)
2. I didn't use it becasue I already had the same setup already installed (or what I assume to be the same). (two lnb's and sw21 switch that came with a 4900. I don't know if these are dishpro or legacy lnb's)
3. I used the dish I got with the 501 for my friend and can't get the 1000 to get any single. Are the lnb's on this dish dispro or legacy? Am I doing something else wrong?
Does this help any??

Answer #1 - No - SW21's are incompatable with DishPro. These LNB's would be Legacy LNB's and as such, ARE compatable with your model 1000.

Answer #2 - Again, all your LNB's are LEGACY and work with the SW21's / 4900 / 1000 that you have

Answer #3 - As pointed out - you have LEGACY LNB's, Switches and receivers. It sounds to me like you have a dish-pointing problem at the new location. Make sure the mast is perfectly plumb, find the skew setting on the Dish500 (set and forget). Then hook the 119 LNB directly to the receiver (I might reccomend using your 4900, since it has been in continous service and thus is current in software revisions). After you get 119 found and peaked, then hookup the sw21 and the 110 LNB and do the Check Switch. THEN try hooking up the model 1000 to see if it will update. If it does, then you can activate it on the new account.
Does this help any?? Yes - see my inline answers.

You may have to call Dish Tech support on things to do to get the 1000 to update software - they may tell you that you can't.
would older software keep me from getting a signal?? I know I am asking alot of questions here and I appericate all the help. I have thought about bringing the 1000 to my home and seeing if I get a signal.

Adsman,
No having older software will NOT stop you from getting a signal. You definiately have a Dish pointing problem. When you do get a signal do a straight connection to the receiver from the 119 LLNBF and allow it to download new firmware before you connect the 110 and 119 feeds into the SW21 and then to the receiver. After that do the switch check and then call Dish to activate the receiver.
BTW Dish' Activation signal will not activate the receiver until you have updated the firmware of the 1000 receiver. I had this same problem with an older receiver.

Adsman,
Since your model 1000 has been "out of the loop" for a couple of years, there **IS** a possibility that you have software that is too old to use. Trust me. I'm a full service retailer and I've ran into this same problem over the last 6 months. One day, I was called to a customers home to install a 2nd receiver. I had previously swapped out his "older" 2700 receiver with a Model 501 PVR. His 2700 went into "storage." He decides that he wants the 2700 in his daughters bedroom. I go to the job, install the 2nd run, connect the dusty 2700, and...NO SIGNAL on most transponders. For a few transponders, the point dish screen displayed WRONG SAT. The Model 501 worked fine, so the dish point is not the problem. Thought it may be a cable issue or an issue with the SW21 switch. Still wouldn't work. Hooked up my 3800 from my work van and it received the signal well. Checked the software version for the customers old 2700 and it was REALLY outdated. So, I left the 2700 connected in-line and powered it off. About 25min later, the screen flashed...displayed Acquiring Satellite Signal for about a minute, then came on and worked fine. I believe that the software change that caused this was downloaded some time back to allow for the (then) new spotbeam satellite to function properly.
-----------------
SO...install your old 1000 to a **KNOWN** working satellite feed and shut the power off and leave it alone. Eventually, it will work just fine. Give it a try and let us know what happens.

BOlco - your post is what I was trying to say, but I wasn't sure if the 1000 would upgrade or not - thanks..
The 1000's current software is 7.04 released 7/17/2002. You should be able to call up system information from the menu to see where your current software is.
