just got off the phone with my satellite dealer who I used to work for in the early days of E*. I was informed that they have ben told that the Chattanooga dma was #63 on E* list of dma's for satellite and since E* already has over 50 up now, the source indicated that Chattanooga would be on-line by the 2q of 03. If this info is correct this is indeed good news for us in SE TN, NW GA, NE AL. I am not sure what satellite it would be on unless they increase the power of either the Nashville or Birmingham Spotbeams, I currently get a 75 on the Birmingham beam and about a 60 on the Nashville beam, maybe they would place the whole market on 61.5, I just do not know. Chattanooga dma currently has 8 full power stations that are on Comcast (NBC3, ABC9, CBS 12, GPTV-PBS18, TBN-23, PBS45, WB53, FOX61).

Hartford locals are available on Directv now. What is so compelling about E* that you won't consider D*?

Don't trust any Rumours regarding what may or may not happen and especially don't base any decisions on any rumours what so ever.

I agree, however this was from a good source and I had given up hope that Chattanooga locals would ever be on E* without the merger, this info at least gives me some hope. I still believe that the merger would have bin good for us consumers and may have bin the only way many dma's will ever get their locals and acording to my source, if the merger would have bin successful Chattanooga would have bin up much sooner then 2Q 03..

Another way for many to get locals is if E* and D* would form a joint venture company to share resource's for locals and possibly broadband. For this to work both D* and E* would need to produce duel speak IRD's so each could receive locals from the other providers format when necessary. But unfortunately the idea of joint venture for locals and cost competitive broadband is likely just a pipe dream in spite of a lot of cost savings this would provide for D* and E*

Is that Memphis is not mentioned, why is that? If DTV offered a receiver like the 508 I would switch just for the locals.

Directivo and Ultimatetv are both available (although UTV units are getting scarce). They both offer many more features than the 508. While both have a service fee ($4.99 for Tivo, $9.95 for UTV), most who own this equipment believe it is money well spent for flawless performance. Both are easily upgraded (I have upgraded two UTV units myself). There are many comparisons charts out there.

I don't want to pay for a service that I can get for free.
