I have a friend who works for a company that just got a contract to produce NEW D card ICs. He happened to mention the NEW cards will require regular phone call ins or disable the reciver. This appears to be part of the new security program.
Not getting into the hacking discussion but I think anything that discourages hackers is GREAT.
Be it this, bills for $4500, or anything else....

D.. do you mean Directv or Dish?
Directv is in the middle of a card swap right now... generation 4 card is the new one.

Both companies already have a new card in use. Neither require a phone line on the first receiver. I think DirecTv requires a phone line for the second receiver and on anyways. I think its required for 4 or more on Dish Network.
Bob, I hope you're wrong, but if not - what are you going to do? Switch to cable? I'm not sure about other companies, but AT&T has REQUIRED a phone line connection since their TCI days. In fact, I think since they first changed to digital service.

Its turned into a money pit. We have SA and Jen doesnt like the idea of 2 differnt systems either. Perhaps the E software will improve before we have the house sold.
