This holiday season, AT&T Broadband cable customers will be able to take advantage of a special opportunity to purchase a 40-hour TiVo Series2 PVR for $199 (after $50 rebate from TiVo). In addition to the equipment, a subscription to the TiVo service is required to enable full functionality, available for $12.95 monthly or $249 for a product lifetime service subscription.

The question is, is the unit a combo AT&T Set top box and TiVo or just a SA TiVO. I know there were plans for a At&T combo box, but the combo box was only available where the set top box portion was supported.

This is the same TiVo they've been selling for the past year, although they have made slight changes to the hardware and it now resembles the TiVo-branded Series 2 rather than a unique design. So, it's basically just like any other standalone TiVo, except that it can control select AT&T digital cable boxes using a serial cable instead of an IR blaster.

Not as ground breaking as it sounds, but at least they are selling it for the same price as the standard SA TiVos. Don't think there is much subsidy (if any) by AT&T (except to get the serial cable optimized for the AT&T box.
