I am having an issue for some time now that the HR20-700 will not dial out or recognize the phone line. It errors when tested. Caller id works fine. Technicians do not now why, even tried a replacement unit, same results. Anyone experience similar problems? My concern is that when VOD rolls out the unit will not be happy the the modem will not call out.

VOD should not be affected as it uses the internet for communication. The fact Caller ID works and 2 boxes have the same problem makes me think there could be something blocking the number it calls at D*

who is your phone provider? Some VOIP systems (namely Vonage) have hard times with data calls. There may be settings to increase the quality of the connection.
Also in some rural areas the pots (plain old telephone) lines are noisy and will result in errors in data calls. A filter may help if this is your case.

Qwest, we do use old copper lines, but they do carry DSL, what kind of filter?
