View Full Version : Chuck
Did anyone have sound problems with the new show chuck?
Sound like people stuttering real fast. So I switched to ota channel and I was getting momentary sound drop outs instead of the stuttering sound????

NO
Sounded fine in Springfield, MO. The Problem I had with Chuck was that it wouldn't stay in my to do list. I set it to rec. 3 different times including 2 hours before it started. Each time it would show up in the to do list and the little rec. circle would be next to the title in the guide. After a while it would just disappear. Sure enuff, I checked at 7:02 and it was gone again and not recording. Hit the rec button and it recorded the rest of it just fine. 1st time that has ever happened. Anybody else have any trouble setting it to rec.?

I couldn't record it. I had to get the west coast SD feed. The HR20 claimed it was canceled due to another program of the same name but no such conflict existed.

I had the same issue. Looks like they're re-broadcasting it this upcoming Saturday evening, where it was automatically diverted to record for me.
Don't know why my unit (HR20-100) did that, but it did.

Couldn't record Chuck either, plus i had pixelation on pretty much all shows today, Heroes and Prison Break.
my only problem was that i thought the show sorta sucked...
other than that...no problems

LOL. Same here. I was thinking that I WISH my audio had dropped out. That was some of the dumbest dialogue I've seen on TV in a while, not to mention the semi-techno soundtrack playing throughout every scene.
And the direction was horrible. When I saw the words "Directed by McG" flash up on the screen a couple of minutes into it, I knew we were in trouble. He has no affinity for characters, or letting a scene breathe a little.
And the only guy on the screen who looked like he can act is the dude playing Chuck's roommate. The female agent and the male agent both did a terrible job of acting. The guy who plays Chuck was ok, but really didn't do much.
I was really disappointed. From the commercials, it looked like it could be a fun show.

There have been some problems with some NBC programs in the Guide. Chuck & Bionic Woman are known examples.
Chuck, last night, no matter how many times you set it up to record, kept dropping off the to do list for Monday and switching to Saturday. This happened wether you scheduled it manually or selected with a Series Link.
You will notice it scheduled properly (so far) in week 2.
Many are reporting the same problem with the Bionic Woman.
The theory that makes the most sense so far is that the Data submitted by NBC for week 1 is partially corrupted and causing a guide issue.
Best to manually check your to do lists daily during this week and next to insure the HR20 is doing waht you expect it to.:nono2:

They should add that to the manual, "Please babysit your DVR daily to make sure it actually records the shows you want." It didn't bother to record Chuck for me either, deciding instead I would like the repeat on saturday. Of course, it'll probably cancel that one cause I said first run only.

Hmmm. It recorded OK for me and I had no audio problems here in Buffalo.
The show itself was OK. The wife and I watched it and I liked it more than she. I agree the acting was a bit lax, but the story was alright. I don't know how they're going to avoid the plot-line getting old quick though...something goes awry in the CIA, they consult Chuck to find out what he knows, they diffuse situation, there is sexual tension between Chuck and the female agent.

Another gripe about this and other shows that use computers/technology as a centerpiece: why do they insist on making these big, fake graphical replacements for what the computer/pda/cell phone screen would really look like?
When you see the dude at the beginning of the show who sends an email to Chuck, it looked someone made a Flash movie that pretended to be an email program and uploaded it to a fake pda and then wants us to believe that it was really an email program. The same thing with the bomb at the end. Do bomb-makers really take the time to make full-screen width countdown timers on all of their bombs? And why was it in a laptop? And when he loaded the virus from the porn site that supposedly would shut down the laptop, why did the laptop have smoke coming out of it after it shut down. Has anyone here ever seen a computer virus that produced smoke from your computer???
I get distracted by the same things while watching 24 and other shows with a lot of tech stuff in them. We might have been fooled by these types of things 10 or 15 years ago, but too many people use tech and computers every day now. You've got to make the stuff look realistic.

I agree about the story line itself. That's why I was excited to watch it. I think it's a fun idea for a show (aside from the problems you cited of how to keep it going).
Also, there were a few funny moments, like when the stoner says "Computer emergency!" as they are backing down the staircase in the Nerd Herd car.
Maybe the acting and scene directing will get better when McG isn't in charge. I think he is only set to direct the pilot episode. He apparently did a good job directing We Are Marshall, but I haven't seen that yet. Everything I've seen from him was done like he was still directing MTV music videos from back in his early years (think Charlie's Angels).

Exactly. And the noises that computers make when actors are using them. For instance, I was watching CSI last night and they have all of these nifty programs that make "computer noises" when a window opens or test scrolls across the screen. Whose computer does that? (aside from the stupid noises you can assign in Windows to minimize and maximize functions. I hope no one uses those).

Definitely, I forgot about the noises they add in. Good point.

B Newt,
I didn't get the stuttering, but I did get the random audio drop outs from about 8:15 to 8:40. I checked everything I could possibly think of and I think it was the broadcast I was receiving not my equipment. my NBC affiliate is WBAL in Baltimore.
I had the same stuttering and drop out problem last year for 24 on Fox HD. It was guaranteed to happen several times on every episode in January/February, but after talking to my local FOX affiliate and D* they worked on it together and it was cleared up by March. I'm not sure it's the exact same problem but it sounds like it.

I have a small complaint about the content of this thread.
When you discuss the content of a show, I believe you should label your post with “SPOILERS”
Many of us don’t watch live TV or watch the recording until well after the episode airs.
Respectfully,

Good point Micky. Sorry about that.
I had the same thing happen with heroes, I could not record it no matter what I did, even manually. After it was over the to do list still had it listed for 9pm on the 24th. I manually rebooted and it went away, but I missed it on the HR-10. I hope the HR20 in the other room got it, I didnt have time to check yet.

Simple answer....product placement. If you don't pay for it, then you don't get it, in the modern era of TV. So, say they showed a computer screen with Windows or MAC OS. The NETS would want MS or Apple to pay for those extremely recognizable screen shots. Since they didn't it's FAKE computer screen that you see.
