Friends,

I recently purchased the Executive Director Hughes receiver (GAEBO model).   I like the receiver, the interface, the quickness of the guide, etc., but I was told that caller ID will not work with any Hughes receiver if you also have Call Waiting.     I was a little skeptical when I heard this knowing that a $10.00 caller ID box from any store works fine when hooked up to a phone, so why wouldn't a good receiver be able to handle the same thing?      Yes, I subscribe to Caller ID and my antenna is also properly grounded!.

Any input would be appreciated.

I think what they are trying to tell you is that your receiver will, in fact, NOT show you the 2nd call coming in via call waiting on caller ID - there IS a difference between caller ID boxes & Call Waiting Caller ID boxes. (the later is also known as type 2 caller ID) I don't know of ANY DBS receiver w/Caller ID that shows the "call waiting-caller ID calls"

On any of these receivers, including your Hughes, the 1st call coming in (when you are NOT already talking on the phone) should show up just fine on the caller ID.

dishrich, this exactly is what I was believing too, but I just did two things:
1.) talked to Hughes Technical support, who told me that none of the Hughes receivers will support Caller ID (even for the first phone call) if the user has Call Waiting
2.) I brought a higher-end RCA receiver over from my neighbors house to test, and sure enough the caller ID works just fine.

This leads me to believe that what the Hughes tech was stating is actually correct. It is just hard for me to fully believe this.

What do you guys think?

I just bought the Hughes E86 HD receiver this weekend, I have call waiting and the caller ID works great on it. It doesn't work for caller ID call waiting (as dishrich mentioned), but that would be expected since for me only the caller ID box connected to the phone I am talking on works for that.

You did turn on caller ID in the set-up menu, right? :)

Interesting. Yes, the caller id is "on" in the menu, which is the factory setting, but I checked just in case.

I also checked to ensure the satellite cable was properly grounded by doing two things... one, looking at the cable (it is secured to a pipe in the attic), and used an RCA HD receiver from next door (which worked with the caller id).

I still find it hard to believe... I think I'll call Hughes tech support back and talk to a different person. I would like to find a neighbor or someone close that has caller id w/o call waiting to test the receiver, but these things cost pennies a month and are usually packaged together anyway!

this is strange, i have hughes GCEB0A APG guide type with caller id. I have call waiting on my line, and get caller id on my TV screen just fine. If a second incoming call is waiting, it doesnt show on screen, but the first call always shows. I also have anonymous call rejection, wich prevents a caller from hiding there caller id number,*67 block, but some calls might manage to get through, phone system is complex. But i am satisfied with caller id aspect of the Hughes Executive Dir pack !except the fact that if you unplug the box, it looses all its caller id records, but keeps its favs and all other settings. If you unplug the thomson box, it does hold its caller id records.

Grounding the satellite cable will have no difference. I would run the system check and if it confirms that your phone connection is good then I think you might need an exchange.
