View Full Version : Image to wide?
Recently when I watch an hd program both sides are cut off. Don't remember it being that way befor about a week ago. It is most noticable when watching High Stakes Poker. They have the players hands shown on the left side of the screen and they are partially cut off.
TV is a Sony 60"a2020 and the 622 is set to 16x9. Is there anything that can be done to correct this?
Thanks
Steve
When you switch to one of the effected channels, does it say "Normal" in the upper left-hand corner? It is says "Stretch", you may need to press the asterisk (*) button until it says "Normal" again.

Funny you mention that. I have noticed quite a few shows that are too big from top to bottom. On NBC, for instance, I will only see half of the logo. I checked to make sure it was not stretched.
Almost all TVs cut off the edge a little. That area of the image is supposed to be devoid of relevant information, so it should not be a problem. Many Sonys have a 1:1 mode which will show you every pixel in the image. That might be something else to check.
To the OP: It is on page 40 of your users guide. It is the Display Area setting.

Thanks for the replies. Will have to check when I get home but I do know that when I use the tv remote for the picture setting if I select normal it gives me a 4:3 format. For hd I will use wide which I didn't think would be necessary. Thought if the format was presented in 16:9 it would automatically display that way.
Problem may end up as user error. Think maybe I don't understand as much as I thought. Will do some testing tonigh and get back here tomorrow with more info.
Will also fool around with the asterick button on the 622 remote and see what I find.
Thanks again.

I'm experiencing deja vu! I have the same TV and DVR and experienced exactly the same problem about a week ago. I've contacted technical support for both Sony and Dish Net and they both blamed each other for the problem.

I've noticed on my RP that the image is alittle bigger then it should be. As for my plasma TV, its just fine. Your RP is the problem. Go into it's settings and you can change the picture point.

Depending how each individual wide screen option is set depends on how the final picture comes out. (Who knows . . . might just help with your situation?!) ;)

When I select the Normal mode on my 722, it gives me 4:3 for SD, but HD is automagically 16:9 as long as my TV setting is already 16:9.

Did some playing around last night. Using the asterisk button on the 622 remote seems to have solved my problem. Somehow it had been pressed and the mode was not normal. It was something like small stretch. Can't remember exactly what they called it but going back to normal seemed to correct my problem. Seems like the label on the remote said aspect. Thought it just meant 16:9 or 4:3. Something new every day.
Thanks for all the suggestions and advice.
