Any one ask or have a contact at DirecTV that would know why they arent offering CPTV the Connecticut PBS in Fairfield County but have one CPTV already carried for Hartford and another for Providence (which is Rhode Island and doesnt even get CPTV on cable). Providence cable systems carry Boston PBS stations. Oddly enough, DirecTV is offering Providence DirecTV subscribers a Connecticut PBS. Supposedly its mustcarry (not sure because no part of Providence DMA is in CT). But DirecTV wants to offer its local subscribers some form of PBS.

Looking at the numbers, Fairfield County has significant population and HH, about 80% as the whole Providence DMA that DirecTV has taken much attention to. Some how Fairfield was considered already covered by NYC.

And agreed that Fairfield homes get adequate number of channels from the NYC LIL package, but state funds from CT are supporting CT. So people in CT should be able to catch the PBS station some of their taxpayer money is going to support. Also the NYC stations arent that great being regionalized where a state PBS can be (although they arent getting enough state funds and cannot sell ad time to be effective against commercial stations).

I know people in other forums that watch Philly News over NY because it tends to have more news for the Jersey shore and Southern NJ than NYC stations offer, even if Philly is not the local DMA by the Jersey shore. NYC DMA is huge, only stories and material if BIG get covered by areas away from the city. NYC also lacks a 4PM hour newscast that many markets. The network broadcasters and syndicators wanted to make sure People's Court and Judge Judy had good clearances in NYC so much regional and local content is often forgetten.

There isnt much difficulty if DirecTV moved WEDH to a spotbeam where NYC, Philly locals are located, why arent they moving it and using the one CPTV to offer it to all CT subscribers? I dont accept the logic that NJN is doing, making both WNJS and WNJN be carried. No cable system would approve of having to carry 2 NJN feeds, identical of each other. Many cable systems can pick up 2 NJN sources since NJN has 4 full power stations. According to a radio site I visit, NJN original intent some 3 decades ago was to have original programming at each station. But this never happened.

Since there is really one CPTV, and one NJN why cant DirecTV strike a deal with these PBS stations to just carry one signal from each and cover the states they are supposed to serve.

They could free up 2 channels on 119W.L. also at it and sell two Pashtu(any international) channels for $34.99 or just use the space for balancing the bandwith and improving PQ on other channels there.

Because Fairfield county isnt a part of CT. Its a suburb of
New York. :)

I don't get it either. Providence does have its own PBS (WSBE 36) which is on cable here too along w/the 2 Boston PBS's (Southern Mass / Providence DMA) Weird getting CPTV in Mass lol
