Had one HR20 installed today. Installer did not ground. He said there was nothing in the attic to ground to. I ask about a ground rod under where the cables entered the house. He said Direct would not let them do that. After he left I called Direct and got no answer but they are having installation supervisor call me. Don't they have to ground it?
Get no signal on sat 110. He said the receiver was defective and they would bring a new one. Hope he is right, but looks like a tree problem to me. I ask about a post mount before he put it on the roof and he said it would cost me $100. I said they have to give me a signal some how. After we had the trouble getting no signal on 110, he said if the new reciever did not clear the trouble they might have to provide a post mount, but I would have to pay a dollar a foot to bury the cable. I will take that up with the supervisor. Any suggestions?
Getting breakups on several local channels on sat 119. Signal level on 119 is in the 50's. Shouldn't they be able to aim it for a signal in the 90's on all sats?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I'd get another tech out there. They can not leave it like he did.

1) All dishes are to be grounded period!!!!! per NEC Code. Acceptable grounds
are house ground found usually at base of elec. meter, meter box, ac ground wire inattic etc...
If no ground is available there should be no install, that being said most techs will let you sign for no ground line of sight.

2) Before a tech leaves everything should be operational. If tech can not get system to work properly you should talk to his supervisor before letting him leave. And surely do not sign any paperwork. Without seeing the the install I can not tell you if you have a tree problem or multiswitch or whatever but make sure that you call and request a tech sup from the installation company, get DTV out of the middle.
