How disappointing.

No closed captioning on A&E-HD, SmithsonianHD (and voice is out of sync on that too), HistHD, TBS-HD, and possibly a few others (which are showing infomercials which may or may not have captions).

I guess I just have fewer HD channels than everyone else today. :nono2:

(Editing this because I think this is the channel's respective faults--not DirecTV's).

Cap, when it gets to be a more human hour, could you update us with a more complete list?

Patience. They just started. I'm sure they'll begin captioning MOST of their programs soon. I too rely on closed captioning.

I only listed channels that had captioning on the SD counterparts but not their HD channels, with the exception of Smithsonian which has no SD channel.

I'm at work now, but when I get home, I'll be going through all the channels to which I subscribe. To be honest, I'm considering subscribing to ALL channels just so I can check CC on the new roll outs. I may do that next week.

I will have a full list (and let some get off infomercials) tonight.

Again--I think this more the channel's fault than DirecTV's. DirecTV doesn't own A&E and so I'll be sending letters to A&E (as I did in the past with TNT--to get their timing right--, and HDNet and Universal (which still doesn't CC I don't think--I only check once in a while) and various other channels. Heck, HDTheater didn't used to and I remember begging them to do so).

I agree. I just checked TBS and noticed that the HD channel doesn't caption at all while the SD channel does. :nono2:

As a quick and outdated update...during the 9300 and 9301 tests

9301 Discovery HD had almost perfect CC
9300 when it was NGC had pure garbage...not even words...

It looks like it might be provider specific...good luck Capmeister...I hope one day all of your battles for good pay off...like for a quick CC on/off!!

I know it's provider specific. I've contacted A&E/History and TBS about theirs. Bravo to Discovery for doing theirs right.

Just watched Law and Order CI on USA HD, and really disappointed with no CC's. Any guess as to whether this will be fixed? Isn't it a violation of FCC and ADA rules?

Possibly. There is a law in place that requires closed captioning of primary programming, but I am not sure if it applies to high definition channels or just the SD channels.
