I've read in a lot of these threads about software updates killing or improving OTA signal strength or steadiness, and it seems to effect all dish HD receivers. Why is that?

I have a vip222 and an RCA OTA tuner, both hooked up to a good quality outside antenna. THe signal on the 222 is weaker (as far as the signal strength meter shows), and the steadiness is worse than on the RCA (more pixilation, more drop outs). Why does dish seem to have a problem with the OTA tuners?

I would think from their (Dish) point of view it is just a courtesy, they want to sell you locals, and every minute you spend on OTA takes away from their other offerings. I am pleased it is as good as it is on my 622. My old DTV really sucked on OTA had to use a seperate tuner.
