View Full Version : Do I have to re-setup my recordings?
With the new channels live, do I have to re-set my "season passes" to record on the HD feed or will they do that automatically?

I checked my 'to-do' list and couldn't determine if it was going to record History HD or just History Channel, so I re-did the series link/season pass on the new HD channel to be safe.
FYI - I am running the newest CE so this info may not apply and thus I could be just wasting your time - Sorry.

Yes, you need to resetup your recordings.
There is an "internal" reference number, that is unique for each channel.

Well in some cases maybe not. I had "How It's Made" set as a series recording on The Science Channel. I went and looked in the upcoming recordings and it's set itself to record from the HD channel. Of course, I have Hide SD Duplicates set to on with the 0x19a software. I thought that was kind of cool that it did that, but since it is the same channel number.....

I am not so sure... I am running 190e, (on an HR20-700 if that isn't implied), and my scheduler shows "SCI" as the channel, and not "SCIHD". What is strange though is that when I tell it to show me all episodes, it only shows be episodes on SCI. That seems a bit odd because in the past episodes should show me every episode on all channels, so I am really not sure how this all works.
However, I trust Earl, and if he says re-setup, I will do so.

I can confirm that Earl is right (as if there was any doubt).
I had a series recording for a show earlier today, and even though my HR20 is set to "no show duplicates", it recorded the show in SD on a channel I can't see instead of recording it in HD... Ironically, while I was watching the show in HD, it was recording in SD.
So, go and re-do all of your series recordings.

Well, that's not too bad. And it'll give me a chance to clear out shows I no longer watch or are no longer shown.
What about keyword recordings? If it gets a keyword hit on a HD / SD channel will it record the HD showing?

I tried that this morning, but it was trying to get the SD version, so I went to the guide and manually set it up, but I've got both SD and HD versions showing.
Also it was early, and maybe guide data wasn't fully set-up yet.
The HR20 shouldn't automatically record the HD channel over the SD. There are times you may want to specifically record the SD channel, so you can use your display's "smart stretch" on 4:3 content.
Many displays are unable to "smart stretch" 720p or 1080i recordings, only 480i/p.

I use the pillarbox format anyways. The stretching can weird me out sometimes.
Stretching makes my head smart....
