I have 61 inc RP DLP LCD Samsung 1080p capable tv connected to an HR20 via HDMI.

On some commercials and shows I get these white dotted lines at the very top of the screen. Some times when the commerical is over they go away, however I watching the Ken Burns Doc "The War" which I suggest you all record and the whole show at these white lines!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!! I don't think it's ever happened on an HD channel.

It does but you just haven't seen it before. Its usually on SD feeds even if they are on a HD channel. I have zero overscan on my PJ so I have seen this on the MPEG-2 feeds before these channels launched. I asked this question over at AVSForum's one time and was told it was the closed captioning info but I have no idea if this is true.

You can fix this. Go into the setup-->picture and click on the "centering" tab. adjust the picture one or two click up. This might fix it - its worked for me in past.

Yeah, it's data.

You can eliminate it if your TV can adjust over/underscan. Some models can't do it without using service mode, some can't do it at all (unfortunately).

If you do see it and can't adjust, you can at least be glad that you've got minimal overscan and are seeing more of the true HD pictures than people who don't see the lines at the top :)

ugh yah this drives me crazy. seems to happen when HD channels play SD content temporarily... (it drives me crazy when watching an HD show on HBO it sometimes does this in the beginning when the logos and what not are showing) i don't want to overscan my TV though...won't that mean i'll be missing 1 or 2 lines on all other HD broadcasts that don't have this issue?

I noticed this too the other day.

I'm using a PJ, so can't adjust it very easily. It's possible that my image is slightly (1/4") lower than the screen and perhaps the bottom 1/4" of the picture extends onto the black border, but it's too much of a pain to try and realign the image, so I'm just going to live with it occasionally.
