I am a new subscriber to Direc TV. I had cable for many years and I could not have been happier now with Direc TV. The one main difference I notice is that the DVR's are very different. I hear about a lot of issues with the R15 and actually last night I had to restart my R15 by pressing the little red button. With cable I had a Motorola DVR and I noticed that every morning around 4:30am the DVR would restart. I had two DVRs and they would do the same thing. Does the R15 do this as well, or do you have to manually restart it when needed? Thanks.

I could be wrong but I don't think they do a daily automatic restart. I'm pretty sure none of our DVR's do this. I made the switch from Comcast back in April and couldn't be happier.

The R15 shouldn't need to be rebooted but, with that said, my first R15 was awful, it often locked up and had to be manually rebooted, or spontaneously rebooted on its own. At the time, there were still a number of bugs with the R15s and they were seemingly much less stable than they are now.

I swapped that R15 almost a year ago, and with the second one, I have had a few spontaneous reboots (all within about a month long period that occurred several months ago) and had series links stop working one time (also several months ago). Other than that, it has been stable and does what its told.

I would recommend, if your R15 continues to lock up, have D* swap it out for another one (or talk them into giving you an HR20 instead).

The current R15 software does not store the guide on the hard drive. If it rebooted every day it would only have about a days worth of guide data at any time.

There are no automatic reboots, other than when it receives an update (which are more like 2 - 3 a year).

The spontaneous reboots Raott mentioned are still around. I had one three nights ago under CE version 1151.
