I am very impressed with the picture quality of the new channels. Just think back to this time last year we were all talking about how the quality of hd was bitstarved and how frustrated we all were. I hope all this positive feedback on the new mpeg4 channels sends a message about quality not quantity. Lets also hope as they add channels the quality of these never go down. Hands down couldn't be more pleased!

The PQ message needs to be sent to the content providers as well ;)

I'm reserving comments on quality for now. Most of the new channels are just upconverted with pixelization so far. I have looked at a few with the "HD" symbol in the guide and they were not very impressive either. I'm going to look at improving my signal and then take a lokk at some of the reruns of shows shot in HD. That will tell us what the new channels are capable of.
On my 106" projector I am blown away by the quality. The first channel I tuned this morning was CNN and Kiren was in glorious HD! Didn't even know until now that the projector was capable of such stunning HD! Happy camper. :biggthump

I'm disappointed that they seem to be just remapping the existing HD channels. It's been hard to watch HBO with all the macroblocking recently. I was hoping for a new cleaner feed with this launch. If/when HBOw launches next month it's liable to be a much better feed than HBOe.
I was very impressed with the picture on Starz this morning. Granted, the two movies I checked out were Open Season and Doogal (both CG). Man, Doogal was gorgeous!
It is, however, a crying shame to see A&E broadcasting recent shows like Crossing Jordan and 24 in glorious poorly upconverted/stretched SD on the new channel.
Guess I'm just a complainer...
