View Full Version : HD channels over SD channels
I may be wrong but a few weeks ago DirecTV said that when the new HD channels come on line if the user has a new mpeg4 box i.e. H20 or HR20. When the user presses 202 that the HD version of CNN with be selected over the SD CNN channel
As if a few hours ago my H20-100 selects the SD channels over the HD one even if you remove the channel from the channel guide
DirecTV really needs to work on how the H20 interfaces with the user
I have had mine for a about a year and it drives me nuts
The box is slow since the firmware update in july i.e. the guide, the menus changing channels.
Since the firmware update the aspect ratio changes
on SD channels from 4x3 to stretch if you change the channel it will change back to 4x3.
That you have to press the guide button 2 times to get the guide this is a waste of time. I would like to see this changed so to get to the category it should you would press the guide button 2 times
The active mode is a total waste of time just so someone could look up there horoscope and have it hog all the memory and mess the box up is beyond me.
with DirecTV since 1994

As of now the H20 seems to be doing that...however the HR20 selects the HD version first. I'm sure it's just a software issue they can resolve quickly.
My HR20-100 my favorites were split; most defaulted to the HD, but a few auto selected the SD. No big deal I fixed my lists and all the channels were looking fine.

I was wondering how this would work when the weather gets bad. The HD channels seem to go out when I get heavy rain / storms but the SD channels are fine. Will I still be able to tune the SD channel in if there is only one in the guide?

You need to do a search and print out the "Undocumented HR20 Tips and Tricks" On page two of six you will find."make the guide button bring up the Gueide instead of Category Choices."

good luck getting box switched - I just changed over from dish in january and the person that signed me up said that since i was paying $100 for h-20 I could exchange box later with no problem since the hr-20 was in short supply, and my installation would be delayed to wait for it, but when I called to exchange they insist on another $299, but since you have been with them a while, you may have better luck -- I still have 15 months to go on my commitment so I will just live with what i have until i get to where the buyout is not so large, dish says they will give me discounts to offset the buyout, but I feel I made a commitment and I'll live up to it. again good luck - by the way does your h-20 also not display guide info & keep banner up about every day until you do a hard reboot by shutting off power to the unit. , thanks---lou
The current CE defies this problem hiding SD duplicates. Heres to hoping it goes national soon for you guys.

I don't see these options in the H20
I hope they can make this the same as the HR20

that only works for the HR20

I never had it not display guide info & keep banner
but the box I had b4 this one also an H20-100 would lock up on the banner. the only way to restart was to reboot

I have the H20-100. Currently, as an example on my locals, when I go to that channel, I have both available using the channel up or down, I can switch back and forth. How you do set up this receiver so that the HD is auto selected, and the SD isn't available?
Thanks!

It's not possible, nobody has found a fix yet... I think we're waiting on a new software load/update/patch or whatever it's called around here.

My HR20 defaulted to the HD channels first on every new channel...well, at least once I got Starz working, but that's another thread...
