The companies will showcase the working prototype of a next-generation wireless home network with a media distribution host serving all the video and data needs in the home with an effective throughput rate in excess of basic 802.11a. The demonstration will feature a media host distributing simultaneous streams of high-definition television (HDTV), standard definition television (SDTV), and Internet data content wirelessly throughout the home to various remote client units.

IMO this is huge. Can you imagine how easy it would be to have receivers and PVRs all over the house without wiring or switches.

I believe this is the Moxi/Digeo home gateway.  (Motorola builds the hardware)

BTW:  Am I the only one who finds James' avatar extremely distracting :D :D

I imagine this will not be cheap first coming out. I think if the computer, pvr, satellite, internet, etc. was all controlled at one unit and could be upgraded at that unit and then distributed wirelessly throughout the house, then this would revolutionize how we use things aroung the house. You could use the tv sets (flat screen HD) or SD analog tv's for internet access having a wireless keyboard in the room you want to operate from (and mouse of course), pvr could be controlled from the computer hard drive or a seperate one, or have it shared with the computer and pvr functions, and wireless video and audio throughout all tv's.

But the technology for 802.11a and 802.11b is already here. Someone just needs to figure out how to get the video running. I'm telling you, if DirecTV or Dish could get this thing going, they'd be able to sell more PVRs since most people don't want to run two or more lines to one TV.

This is what I want, I want to wire up all my tv's to internet access wirelessly with a wireless keyboard, audio/video to all tv's wirelessly which contains pvr, and so forth. This is what a lot of people want, even if they have not thought of it yet. This may help pvr go forward as well. I think Dish and DirecTv should implement this technology to get it moving forward. Dish implemented PVR.

Can you imagine a Direcway (http://directv.direcway.com/) implementation using this? One dish supplies TV/Internet and no cables to run though your house. I hope within the next year we will see something like this where installation would be a piece of cake.

I have asked about this before and this would be a wonderful dream. The only thing I can think of that comes close is the device for the window in which you can put a device on each side of a window without drilling any holes to run a wire into a house.

This would also solve problems with those that have signal issues that would have to have a dish placed far away, but I dont know how far those would reach if that technology would ever become available.

How about making it possible not having to have a satellite dish? Just a whip antenna inside on the receiver just like you do on a radio, or even the xm satellite radio that has this. A lot would hav to be done in order to make this come about and it would not be able to have many channels, but I thought I heard about something coming out where you could watch tv from satellite wirelessly as you go, maybe on a phone, or something.

Is there any copy protection built in? The article didn't mention anything about it but it seems like a device of this kind would make video sharing over the internet commonplace.

Wouldn't the feed be encoded just like it is now? I'm talking about the receiver being on the other end. You'd still need a receiver at every TV, just not the wire running from the dish to the receiver.

You would not even need a receiver at each tv because they would be all at the same place, using the same technology that allowed it to be wireles from the dish to the receiver. I also think that if they would make the internet broad enough that they could broadcast it all on the internet and then make wireless internet more common and make this more practical in this way. There could still be a receiver connected to the internet to decrypt the information fed through the internet to help prevent piracy.

Well that would be the way it would work in a couple years. But right now the technology exists to do this with existing equipment.
