Does anyone know if DS9 or Voyager were originally done in HD? Seeing them in HD on Spike would be sweet.

I know they were both originally shot in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Not sure what the recording medium was or if they were ever remastered in HD. They will probably not look any better than they do on DVD and can never be shown 16:9 unless stretched. I'm sure there is a real trekkie around here that knows better than I though.
What about Trucks, are they shot in HD?
I don't expect to see any actual HD content on this channel for quite some time.
next monday spike is gonna show a james bond marathon, i hope those are in HD and look as good as bond on mgm HD!!!

Didn't word get out already that spike wasn't doing any HD until 2008? This channel would then have the same approach as Speed HD. Show everything in SD format on the HD channel until they broadcast HD content next year.

They carry CSI. Any chance of those being aired in HD? Kinda sucks that I can get all the CSI: Miami I could want on A&E HD but can only get the original show in HD on CBS.

Unfortunately, the only Star Trek show shot for HD was Enterprise, and HDNET has the exclusive HD broadcast rights (which is why Sci-Fi's Monday marathon is 4:3 letterboxed in a 16:9 pillar). Also, the only Trek series that can (and has been) remastered in HD is TOS, as it was originally shot and mastered on film.
Next Gen, DS9, and Voyager were all shot on film, but the effects sequences and all other post production on these three series were completed in SD to save money. :(

The special effects were done in Avid on video tape. They would have to go back and remaster the film for HD and recreate from scratch the special effects.
That is the problem that JMS has been having with Babylon 5. The series was filmed in 16:9, but most of the special effects would have to be recreated for seasons 1 & 2 because the CGI was done on video tape.
The only thing I know of that will probably be in HD aside from CSI is TNA wrestling and maybe UFC.

Close. Actually the CGI and some effects were done digitally. They were output as CCIR-601 video to the Abekas tape format on 8mm data cassettes. Granted, that could be considered "digital video tape", but it's not what most people think of when you say video tape.
It's still all SD 4:3 content, of course.

If it helps, I have all of the series on DVD except for Voyager (ugh). Only Enterprise is in widescreen. The others are all 4:3. Nice 5.1 though...

People actually watch the latter two? :)
I think they're two of Spike's highest rated programs..
Well, the Ultimate Fighter comes on tonight, 10pm EST. Here's hoping it's in HD hehe. I knew this "100 HD channels" was too good to actually be true. In that, I mean broadcasting HD content. A lot of the programs I've looked over today on all these "new" HD channels aren't even HD, or are in a 16:9 pillar. I'll be happy once they are all done properly.
Bring on Mixed Martial Arts.
UFC in HD!!! YEAH!!! :D :D :D

i would say there is a good chance the next live UFC FIght Night will be in HD since they are filming all UFC events in HD. also a good chance Unleashed could be in HD at some point.
I wouldn't hold my breath though. It would be a nice surprise for the UFC's to be in HD!

Thanks for the clarification. I knew the general gist of it, but not the technical side.

I think both shows pre-date HD filming in the Star Trek franchise. I think Enterprise was the first. They also did Enterprise in letterbox, like The West Wing.

Yup....They have already bought the equipment. From people that I talk to from TNA, after the next iMPACT filming, they will be swapping everything out in Orlando for the HD equipment.
I belive TNA's goal is to beat WWE to the HD launch.
Wow! I don't think I've ever seen this many consecutive shows in a row. CSI & VIP dominate two straight days of programing. Sheesh! Don't get me wrong, I love CSI, but this schedule is ridiculous.

The regular spike is like that too, at least from what I have seen. Havent started watching the HD spike - no time to watch TV!
All new original programming on Spike is in HD (season 3 of Pros vs. Joes and season 2 of MANswers, for instance, which will both air next year). Also, all original scripted programming has been and will be in HD (Blade: The Series and The Kill Point, although neither are coming back). Also, the Video Game Awards on December 9th will be in HD.
Some of this (The Kill Point, for instance) is available in HD through XBox Live, as well.

what TNA before WWE thats crazy, Vince will loose a lot of viewers lol.
Well i hope both are available in Mid Jan, cause thats when the WWE comes back to my town and i want to record it IN HD and not upconverted Sd or SD 4:3

The fact that your standard DVDs are 4:3 does not mean that the original film isn't widescreen. The DVD release of "Wiseguy" was 4:3, but the episodes have been remastered in widescreen HD and are shown in that format on HDNet.

YES! Looks like the new shows are filmed in HD. The 'PowerBlock' intro segments were HD as well. Unfortunately, it looks as though they are adopting stretch-o-vision for the older shows. Odd that the guide doesn't indicate HD though...

CSI will be airing in HD starting in May. Right now, HD programming consists of CSI: NY, Pros vs. Joes, The Powerblock, GameTrailers TV and the Spike Guy Movies. The Ultimate Fighter and the Star Wars movies will be in HD in March, and TNA iMPACT! in May. There will be NO stretch-o-vision.

Star Wars in HD? As Yoda would probably say "See, this I gotta." Hopefully it will be the ORIGINAL TRILOGY, not I-III (well maybe they can skip the first two and start with "Revenge of The Sith".)

I am watching the Spike Horsepower TV show and it says that the show is in HD, but it has the black bars on theleft and right hand sides. I have it on the HD channel and it is listed as "original format". What's up? I apologize if this has been discussed ad nauseum.

Yeah I noticed this too.. It was fine last week but the week before it was in SD.
As a side note; One of the other HD shows on Spike (Gametrailers.tv) is shot and is supposed to air in HD was also in SD last night.

I've been enjoying Pros Vs. Joes in HD the last few weeks. I love seeing those "I should of went pro" wanna bes get embarrassed.

I've been recording every new episode of Gametrailers and less than half of them have actually been broadcast in HD. They've been advertising this new show and it's supposed to be in HD, but for some reason they have only been in HD a few times.
Anyone know why it's in HD sometimes and sometimes not?

DTV added a guide ad just before Spike so I deleted Spike from my favorites to suppress the ad. I don't watch Spike any more. :(

When were all six Star Wars movies shown? I haven't noticed them in the guide. Maybe I missed them?

Star Wars is starting April 4th.
April 4th @ 8 PM ET - The Phantom Menace
April 5th @ 8 PM ET - Attack of the Clones
April 6th @ 8 PM ET - Revenge of the Sith
and I don't know for certain but I assume they will do the same thing the next weekend with Original Trilogy since A New Hope is not airing on Spike anywhere in the next 2 weeks.

Spike's been re-mapped to 241. You may want to update series links just in case. It is still, for the moment, still being mirrored on 325.

Is Directv testing to see if Spike better fits in with the USA/FX/TNT channels than off on it's own in the 300s?
If I wasn't used to tuning into 325, this placement makes more sense than were it is now.

Not really, it just used to be on that channel in that area, because it used to be tnn back in the day. Now its Spike of course, and it makes no sense to be in the range of music channels so they are just organizing it better.

Oops, I interpreted your post backwards. I thought you meant 241 for a week...which made no sense.
I like this move, and it makes much more sense than being sandwiched in between music and shopping

Is Spike moving to 241?
It would make more sense to have it there then 325. When it started as The Nashville Channel having it with the other music channels was the right place but Spike is totally different now and out of place at 325.

Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering what happened to my Ultimate Fighter series links. They were all set a week ago when I checked, then gone today.
