Hello. I'm new here. Greeting's everyone! A question. I have a direcTV receiver. I hate the on screen info that pops up whenever you change channels. Is there any way to get rid of this? Also, some channels are interactive and whenever you turn to one a little interactive icon pops up on your screen. Is there any way to get rid of this too?

Thanks

i know that it is not possible to get rid of the on screen displays on the screen (the top banner info) such as channel number, channel name, time, date, favorite list, etc, whatever it may be depending on the receiver. As a matter of fact I know of no receiver in which you can get rid of the on screen display banner that comes up while changing channels. I am guessing that you are used to analog cable in which you did not have this happen. Digital cable is also getting the same way with the banners just as satellite is, but most people do not say anything about it because they are used to it just as you are used to not having it. I know that when I go somewhere where there is just analog cable I wish the banner was there because I do not know what program is on and when the show will go off, unless you get an RCA tv with a program guide in it.

You can, however, get rid of the extra Wink features on your receiver (The "i" interactive icon the appears on some channels), by turning to channel 499 and disabling the service under "Settings".

What receiver do you have? RCA/Hughes? Let us know and we might be able to tell ya how to turn off the show titles.... :)

A recent sony model for DTV only has the channel logo on the corner no title banner unless you hit info.

You can push the Clear or Info buttons after changing channels to immediately remove the banners.

Yes, I know about the clear button. I thought there might be a factory menu that I could access and turn the thing off. Thanks anyway.

Maybe someone can find the chip that allows the receiver to do that and disconnect it, but that may cause other screens to not come up. Maybe someone could reprogram the receiver that knows a lot. I am not too sure how hard that would be to do.

Ok, here's another question. I had DirecTV hooked up from March to November 2002. I just hooked it back up last week and I noticed on tv shows the on-screen guide lists dates (day, month, year). Are these production dates or when the show was originally aired? When did they start doing this? That is something I like.

You must have an RCA receiver. This was part of that great software upgrade from last month. The date information listed there is the original air date. Of course, on some series it shows the date the series began rather than when the specific show was broadcast.

I wonder if Dish can do the same upgrade
