New house. New construction. Has a D-mark and a smart box that the installer needs to hit and disribute the signal. I don't know what any of this means but the builder of the house gave me a little primer on what to tell installer.

Anyway, installer came out today and it looked like his head was going to spin. He left, saying the overall look of the house would be better served by the dish being mounted under on of the wood roof awnings in the rear of the house. I assume this was a reason for him to high-tail since I've never known an installer to care about how a house looks. And of course, he didn't have the right mount on board. Just as well I suppose since if he didn't feel up for it, I didn't want him to practice on my install.

Anyway, I'm now nervous that this may be the case with anyone who comes out here. Anyone have success stories or tips on helping him with the install info-wise?

Much appreciated....

If you have a composition shingled roof, the best mount is on the roof with at least 5 lags into rafters period. Secondly if line of sight is not problem the dish should be place above or near the electrical meter attached to the exterior of home.

With the smartbox, you should have lines running from the box inside to a point outside or in the attic. The installer will run lines from your dish to this point. In the smartbox, you will have those lines for the dish and you should see the lines (hopefully labled) for each wired room. Gets a little complicated here. If you have a multiswitch (zinwell) then all 4 lines will go in the inputs and the wired rooms will go on the outputs. If you only need 4 connections, you can just use a coupler to connect the dish lines to the wired rooms.

Wow, hopefully you got all that.
