I am upgrading an SD RCA receiver to an D* H20 along with the new dish required for the new MPEg4 channels. (I will also have an HR20-700 installed.) I want to be able to haul this new H20 receiver to my mountain home on weekends. Can I use my single LNB dish to receive signals on this? Granted, they wont' be HD ... but's that's OK because I don't have an HD TV in my mountain home .. I simply want to be able to pick up my D* channels in SD format.

Or for the H20 to receive anything at all, will I be required to upgrade my dish as well?

Thanks in advance.

I think it will work technically. However, you might want to call DIRECTV and clarify the rules for moving your receiver from location to location.

It should work with a single LNB dish, as long as you just want to view the regular SD channels on the 101 satellite. You just need to change the satellite setup on the H20 to be single lnb dish.

Thanks all -- and yes, DTV specifically says that I can haul this receiver back and forth with no additional charge... They DID mention that I may not be able to pick up my LILs since they "spot beam" them ... I'll give it a shot next weekend and report back here as to the outcome.

It will work just fine. I hauled my H20 around in a motorhome and used it with a portable single lnb dish with no problems. As said you only get what's on the 101 bird and make sure to set it up for the old round dish. Don't bother calling D* as what they don't know won't hurt them. This is common practice in the rving community.
