View Full Version : Signal Testing?
Like many posters here, my HR20 spontaneously rebooted in the wee hours this morning. But when I tried to check my signal meter, I got prompt "Do you want to interrupt scheduled recording ... on channel 1010?" I didn't schedule a recording, nor do I get that channel at all. After a few hours, that went away, and all was normal. Then later, I try to just change channels, and get a prompt "Do you want to interrupt Signal Testing on ... ?". I said no, gave it half an hour, and all was back to normal again. Can D* do remote testing like this? If so how does it work, do they get feedback over the phone line or the network connection?
Inquiring minds want to know.
(Patiently waiting for a new dish so I can enjoy all the new HD channels).

Channel 1010 I think is for Showcase, you don't see it, but it's there. You just have to be patient and wait that your DVR stops the recording.
Interrup signal testing is a reported bug, if you see it again push "yes interrupt signal testing" no big deal
Hope it helps :)

Yes, our beloved Directv Overlords can do lots of things with our boxes. :) I think "Channel 1010" refers to Directv on Demand (DOD) but I'm not certain. I DO know that the times I've gotten the "Do you want to interrupt Signal Testing . . ." it's been asking for trouble to say yes and go mucking around in the Setup menu. I've ALWAYS had to reboot after that later on for while doing something else. But it's been several s/w versions ago so perhaps that's been cleaned up.

I get showcases too but in each case when I've gotten a "Do you want to interrupt . . ?" prompt, it's actually given me the name of the show recording (yes, even showcases). But again, I'm not certain. I do know that there is a "virtual" tuner used by the HR20 for processing DOD signals and recording them, which is why I suggested that channel 1010 might be involved in that.
Yeah, in my case it did list the titles of about 4 shows, but I don't recall the names. So this is just a glitch and not any acutal testing. I did have On Demand for a while, but reverted back to 018A and lost it, of course.
Good to know I can reboot without doing any damage.
Thanks

In that case, assuming they weren't shows you had scheduled to record, it was probably Showcases being recorded.
