Hi,
This is my first post here. I called yesterday and got a great deal on upgrading from my 10-250 to the HR20.

The tech came out this morning and installed the new 5lnb dish and the new DVR. But I am not able to get a signal on the test channels (480, 481, 498). When I check satellite 103(b), I get 0s on transponders 1-13, 77 on transponder 14, 95 on transponder 17 and 95 on transponder 22. All other transponders are N/A. The numbers are similar on the second tuner.

On satellite 103(a), the odd transponders are 0 and the even transponders are >90.

On the other satellites, most of the transponders are >90 (with some 0s).

He did not replace the original switch, which is a 4x8 switch. He did not replace any cables.

Prior to this, I had the 10-250 as well as a SD Tivo, both set up for dual tuners. Both worked perfectly, so I don't think it's the cables.

The tech is coming back out here this afternoon. Can you guys help me with where to start? Is it the switch? Do I need the 6x8? What else do I need to have the tech look at?

Thanks a ton!

The Zinwell WB68 is the multiswitch you need. Only this and the 16 port version of it as well as the yet to be released SWM's are compatable with the new dish/sats.

I'd also say that you shouldn't let them leave/sign the paperwork till they have it working right or at least have a good plan to get it working right.

I called them and they came back out.

You were right. The tech didn't know we had a switch because it was hidden underneath the house. He assumed it was hooked up straight since we only had 4 lines coming in. When I told him about the switch, he immediately went out and got a Zinwell switch out of the truck, hooked it up, and now I'm good to go.

Actually, other than this, the tech from Ironwood was great. He flew through the install and was very puzzled why we were having problems.

In any case, I am a very happy camper!

I had the HR 20 - 700 / 5LNB slimline / WB68 multiswitch installed yesterday.

A few questions:

1) Is it supposed to come with an RF remote?
2) The box with the HR-20 said factory reconditioned, is this normal
3) Although the picture signal looks fine, the transponders on the different sattelites appear to be inconsistent i.e. 97 0 etc. I will post actual numbers later.
4) I have seen audio sync problems, is there a solution?
5) I went into the setup and now on my local channels that aren't broadcasting in hi-def, the picture is cropped top / bottom. I don't know if I changed a settting or the station broadcast changed, but I need to correct this.
6) The installer zip tied the cable to the gutter on the outside and to water pipes on the inside, is this normal?

Sorry for so many questions, just new to directv and don't know how it all works yet.

The RC64R remote is RF. The configuration is pretty straightforward on the menus (I can't remember exactly where at the moment - perhaps someone else can describe it.)

People are sometimes getting reconditioned and sometimes getting new units. It shouldn't make any difference.

We all have audio sync problems. I even have them on my local NBC channel both OTA and from the satellite on both the HR20 and Tivo. DirecTV is working on it, and I hope NBC is too.

You probably changed the format setting - hit the format key on the remote and scroll through for something that looks right.

You need the Zinwell 6X8 or you will not get 103b properly

I didn't receive an RF remote, I was asking if it was supposed to come with one.

The 700 has it internally.

I think it normally comes with one, but I'm not sure if that is a requirement. You might call DirecTV and explain the one that was provided was not an RF remote, and would they please send you one.

yeah should have 4 cables running from dish to multi which should be a 6x8 zinwell.... also make sure the inner white part of the cable is actually flush up against the connectors... if not this could cause a problem ESPECIALLY if you're looking at an odd even problem with one side reading high 90's and the other 0's also check and see if there is any barrell connector on the lines going to your hr20 or anything used to put to lines together to make the length correct.... the 103 is very sensitive and the voltage has to be right period..... honestly it sounds alot like a connector problem somewhere but other above things still could be problem.... odd even problems are almost always line issue... either damaged line or connectors that have become loose or put on poorly in the first place.... also remember this... the line can be damaged and you still get other channels ... it's because channels travel on certain freqs which in turn travel down specific parts of the line itself so if you have slight damage to the outside like let's say a crease on the line that may only damage a small portion of the inner line where the signal travels but not the more inner part with others travel... higher freq channels travel on the outside rings and lower travel on the inner rings per se
