So wife and I purchased a PPV movie today, ADT, non-HD, "The Messengers" and set it to record to the DVR. We now see "Expires 10/31" next to the listing... wtf? Pay for movies and record them to my DVR and they now EXPIRE? anybody have experience with this? know what exactly this means? And if it means my purchased movie on my dvr (no i'm not leasing mine) is indeed going to be deleted automagically on that date, who can i call to ream?
thanks

Calm down, take a deep breath...
PPV movies on the new D* DVR's have always had an expiry date. The moment you start watching it the expiry goes away.
You're also not charged until you start watching it.

too used to being screwed as a consumer. :nono2:

That's not true if you order the movie online. If you order online you are charged immediately and I don't believe there is any expiration date.

I'm confused.
Just had an HR20-100 installed last week after 1 1/2yrs of HR10-250 experience.
Recorded "Wild Hogs" on the HR20 on 10/17 to watch this weekend with the wife. Since this was the first time using the HR20 to record, I checked to make sure I did it right and it was actually recorded by starting Wild Hogs. It was there.
Sat down last night and saw "Expires 10/19" in the List Menu. We started watching it and 5 mins into it, it stops and a message something like "Searching for authorized content..." comes up.
Am I doing something wrong or is this recording truly expired? this did not happen on the HR10.
And as indicated above, are PPV recordings only good for 1 viewing?
Once you start a recorded PPV, even if you only watched the first minute or so, does that start a 48hr countdown for expiration?

There is currently a problem with PPV. The "record now, pay and watch later" feature is not working correctly.
The good news is that you should find you have not been charged for the movie.

You are absolutely correct - "Purchases" shows that the 10/17 recording was "Cancelled".
Hope they fix this soon - great way to watch PPV - and it should increase their PPV sales as well.
You can watch and record a ppv at the same time, and it works. Plus once recorded it should stay recorded, and you should be able to watch it repeatedly.
PPV that are recorded but not watched (once that works properly) will have an expiration date, but once watched (and paid for) they should not expire.
DOD (on demand) items do have expiration dates, even after they are viewed, but can be watched multiple times until they expire.

I did have one PPV apparently expire but it may have been that it never really recorded (about 6 months ago).

The new HD PPVs are having problems with acquiring the order details. I reported this as an issue in the recent CE. The HR20 only receives the purchase info if tuned to the channel while the PPV is broadcasting. What makes matters worse is when ordering by remote when live which works a few days after you recorded the program it becomes unviewable even though the access card shows purchased.

I just noticed that my phone line is currently inactive now. Has anyone else noticed this. It is telling me to check phone line and nothing is wrong with it. Weird!!!!! Something is very screwy with ppv lately

Any new info on this problem?
Tried again to record the beloved "Wild Hogs" and failed and now it appears to have disappeared from HD PPV.

Mine had the same problem. I had to purchase a movie online before I could view anything. I thought it was my phone line, but it just the "record now, pay and watch later" that got me. I had an entire movie I couldn't even watch GRRR!

There are conflicting answers here. I purchased non DoD PPV last month and watched it. There was still an expiration date and that content did get removed from my HR20 automatically after it had been paid for and viewed. My wife missed watching the movie as it got removed before she could sit down to watch.
What is SUPPOSED to happen vs. what we are witnessing right now?

Could it be that you ran out of disk space and it wasn't set to Keep?

Nope since this was on my secondary TV without HD capabilities. I record most programming in SD and have never run out of space.

I recorded Wild Hogs a while back from channel 99 and there was no issue. This may be a problem with the 103B channels. Channel 99 has never given me the issues you are reporting.

Check the notes for the most recent HR20-700 CE. I believe this issue (MPEG4 PPV) is being addressed by D*.
