Hey my 721s remote has been eating batteries. Call E they will replace it under warranty. Charge $8.95 for shipping? Ah my 721 is BRAND NEW, less than 3 months old.
Is this common, it certinally isnt fair....:(
I didnt fight with the rep, its NOT worth it but this a a WRONG Policy, espically for a pricey receiver, and besides they saids its a klnoiwn issue with the remotes...
well, if they wanted they could have charged you the full 14.95 that they charge for receivers!

When I RMA'd my 721 they charged $14.95 to my CC and I thought it sucked. When I got my next Dish Network bill it had a $14.95 credit on it. Did someone make a boo boo?
I think so :) hehe
I actually paid 24.95 two weeks ago for shipping so that I could get a new 501 as soon as possible. THe price is as easy to take in direct proportion to your desire for the problem to be fixed

I wouldnt care if it were out of warranty. But chargingn for replacing a KNOWN defetive remote looks bad...
For dish network.

If they would charge $15 for shipping on a remote, then that would be almost what it would cost wholesale for a replacement.
They are getting the money back on the remote through shipping. I know that an IR blue button remote is about $15 wholesale so if they tried getting that much out of shipping then someone got their money back.
There are some universal remotes at Wal-Mart that would work on Dish for $9 and up but I personally dont think it is as good to use than the Dish factory remote. I believe the RCA remote is the one for $9 just like those they use on the Direct systems.

I guess my point is... If the manufacturer knows and admits a under warranty part has a known problem then a warranty replacement should be free of shipping charges.
Its not the money but the principle of the thing.

I think that Dish gets discount shipping as well since they ship so much.

What do you consider eating batteries, Since July I have swapped out my batteries on the 721 remote 3 times. I think I swapped my blue button remote once in 3 years. I thought about it and figured between all the extar times you hit pause, rewind, another 4 button presses to skip through one set of 30 sec commercials, then maybe it really isn't eating but just being used a lot. How has everyone else done with batteries..
I also just got a new 721 replacement (bad tuner), and was kind of shocked to think that their defective product I have to pay for some shipping costs. I have a feeling that this is similar with other electronic gear especial when purchased on the internet..

When I replaced my 501 under warranty, I flat out refused to pay shipping and they waived it. Just say NO.

Batteries dead within a day or two of install. Duracell EXPENSIVE premium ones. Also had a set of radio shacks, the original batteries that came with the unit die within a day. Been thru 6 or 7 sets. With good batrteries its expensive, they must have a continious load to drain them that fast. Had the reeciver less than 3 months, it must be a battery vampire...

Is there a low battery indicator on the 501/508 ? Do you notice any lights remaining lit on the remote? I bet the battery companies love these PVR units for how much battery juice the remotes take up and should promote them because of that.

I have gone to rechargables on all high consumption battery items in the house. I have multiple sets of them that I rotate through the charger and the high consumption products, so I always have a set of AA's and AAA's waiting and fully charged for when they are needed. They are pretty much dedicated to my digital camera and my Handspring PDA. If I had consumption problems with my remote contols I would rotate them through there also. I think I have replaced the batteries in my Dish D-VHS unit remote twice in the time that I have owned it, which is since it was first offered years ago.

Hmm I am still on my origional 721 batteries. It's been a good remote although some of the codes in the book do not work on the 721 remote which is agrivating
If you read your WARRANTY STATEMENT in your instruction books you might get a surprise. I don't have a 721 manual but the 508 under Regular Warranty Service states "This replacement equipment will be shipped at no cost to you." Also the warranty term for both parts and labor is 1 year, printed in Black & White so stick up for your rights.

Can you please scan that and post taht on this site? If this is the case then this could be some very good news.
I bought NiMH batteries in which can recharge up to 1,000 times. You have to buy a special charger for these batteries though.

Ok, guys, if you can can get five+ people together to order chargers, I will provide a NoMem Pro rapid charger with 4 AA NiMH batteries for $22 (retail $32.95) each plus actual shipping (plus tax in FLorida only). This charger will do four AAA, four AA or two 9V cells at one time (NiCd or NiMH). This is the charger that I use that I mentioned above. If you need AAA batteries, just let me know and I will supply them (NiMH) for $9.50 per set of four (retail $16.95) or more AA batteries at $10.25 per set of four (retail $19.95) with the same order. I will have to order them all at one time, so will probably ship a couple of weeks after I receive orders. Leave me a pm with your e-mail address if interested.

Thats not too bad of a deal. How much does Wal-Mart have on these? I think they have about $12 on 4 batteries. A charger I think is like $20 itself too, so this is some savings. This is for AA batteries.

WIth the non-PVR blue button remote, I run Dollar General batteries for no less than six months. And this house is full of channel surfers--they get used A LOT ;)
Basically, if it eats batteries, it gets rechargeables--preferrably NiMH, but will settle for rechargeable alkaline. Other than that, it gets dollar store batts :D The only exception is the smoke and CO alarms which I won't skimp on ;)

Well the remote arrived yesterday. If they charge my account I will argue the point. It came express, fast service was nice.

Thats not too bad of a deal. How much does Wal-Mart have on these? I haven't checked any prices other than from one of my suppliers, so I really don't know what the market is out there. I just checked my costs and retail and figured in enough to cover the cost of getting the goods here from my supplier. I do all my business with my suppliers on a COD cash basis, so I always have to figure in things like COD fees along with shipping to me, which is the reason for wanting at least five orders.

If it were me I would rather get them anywhere but Wal-Mart, they get enough business as it is, other businesses need the opportunity as well.
I already have 8 batteries and a charger myself or I would get some off of you. I use them for my two mile range walkie talkies (I would now like to get the five or seven mile range ones if they get cheap enough).

Hey the [paperwork with the remote said N/C. We will see, it might have been a miss informed CSR.

The 721 manual states that customer will pay for return shipping, which $15 for 2 day UPS seems pretty reasonable..
