I just had two HR 20's installed by directv to replace 2 HR 10 250's. The new HD channels show up but like a mirror of the HD only in non HD format. The old HD channels still come in fine.

If I press 278 for Disc HD I get an empty screen with the message code 721, 'you have not paid for this channel'. if I press the + channel, it shows the Disc chan content ok at 278 but not in HD.

They are sending someone out to work on it Tuesday but I was wondering if there might be information to resolve this right here in the forums. I read about trouble shooting here last night and did some checking. The 103 B signal is very strong ( I forget the number but way above 65) and had positive confirmation for the odds and evens.

Could the separated diplexed signal for an antenna into the off air input cause this problem?

Any ideas? The level of proficiency of any tech they send is a grab bag.

Thanks for any 'input'! Ha!

Could the separated diplexed signal for an antenna into the off air input cause this problem?99% likelihood. Diplexing is NOT recommended. For some reason, nobody seems to have shared this with the installers.

The diplexers filter out the 103b satellite signals which are just above VHF range.

Easy to find out. Just remove the diplexer at each end and couple the cable together

Message 721 means you probably still have the expired HD access fee on your account. Call a CSR and tell them to remove your HD access and then re-add it. Problem should be fixed, especially if you get the right test messages on channels 480/481.

You only need a tech if you have the BBC modules attached but get "searching for satellite signal" on 480 or 481.

Diplexing works just fine if correctly installed.

LNB>MULTISWITCH>BBC>DIPLEXER>RG6 COAX>DIPLEXER>HR20/H20

The BBC must be after the multiswitch & before the first Diplexer.

I'm diplexed & received all new HD channels, both tuners have 84-97 on 103b.

You might be subscribed to the wrong HD Tier. Call DirecTV and have them check and also have them check this in both of their subscriber control systems.

I did not see you mention your BBC's at all?

this is a very true setup that seems to be working, now as a reminder the BBC's isn't weather tight. they'll need to be inside a weather tight enclosure or indoors.

Problem solved. It was at their end with the accounts as suggested above. Thanks for your help, all of you. Great forum.

The diplexing is only for my antenna and original old sat coax going into the off air input.

Thank you repeatedly. Frees up a whole afternoon from a tech visit.

It's not that DIRECTV didn't share this with the installers.

Most of the installers don't read the installation instructions.

I'm not an installer for a living. I installed my own AT9 dish and HR20.

It was pretty clear in the information I had that diplexers were not to be used.
