well after finding this board and doing a lot of searching I prepared for the worst so to speak with regards to my install. I had a significant amount of problems even before the install that had me end up talking to the Presidents office. In hindsight it might have been a part of the reason things went so well.
Anyways, my appt was set from 8am to 12pm on Friday and I was contacted a few days in advance to confirm everything. After a slight mix up in the equipment everything was set to go. I asked them to request that I be the first appointment of the day and they said they would do their best to fulfill it. I also requested that my 2 HD-DVR boxes be the 700's series which they also said they would note. The afternoon before the local manager called to reconfirm everything and told me the lead installer had been assigned. So far things seems ok but I still had apprehension. The morning of the installer call at 9am to say they would be there within 30 minutes. At 9:32 they called to say they were at the gate so I was pretty happy. Literally 2 seconds after I hung up the area director called to see if they were there yet !!!! wow now thats service.
So I open up the door and I see a regular van pull up and then a directv van pull up and I am like oh wow, 2 installers. Well then three guys get out of the car and as he is getting out a FOURTH installer shows up. He is the area supervisor and was also here to assist. Now at this point things are really looking up. So we spend some time surveying the house, the install options for the dish and some of the obstacles that face us. Incidentally they are close to releasing something that will allow those who cant run dual lines to overcome this issues (I had that in one location) So at this point they proceed to start the install, coming in every so often to show me things, point out what they are doing and generally being really cool, friendly guys. They did a fantastic job hiding cables where they could and making sure the whole install was WAF as possible. They even went so far to fix the cable in my office where my high speed internet comes in and had to be relocated.
So about 2 hours in the lead supervisors had to move onto another install and the remaining two guys stayed behind. They finished about 12:30 and had everything installed to my satisfaction. They also spent a fair amount of time making sure everything was dialed in.
I gave them plenty of bottled water to stay cool (it was hot out) the remaining installers both got a $35 tip, a case of beer to split and one of them a brand new Halo 3 game for his cousin who was dying to get the game but couldnt afford it (he was 11)
So I understand my case is rare but its nice to know things can be done right even after having some bumpy roads along the way.
Oh yeah, here is a picture of directv on the fridge :)
