View Full Version : H20 on a non-HD tv... Does it work? Will an H20 work on the old 3LNB dish?

Greetings.

I am having an install of a slimline dish next week, and I was curious if the H20 receiver will work on a non-HD tv?

Also, will the H20 work on a 3 LNB dish?

The reason I as is I use one of my recievers for tailgating with a dedicated 3 LNB dish, and don't want to upgrade that particular receiver if it isn't going to work.

Thanks in advance.

You won't get any HD programming with a 3lnb but the receiver should work to receive everything else

It will work just fine, that is what I did in Feb '06. I jumped on the last chance to own the box rather than lease even though I didn't have the bedroom HDTV yet. It worked just fine, just deactivate all resolutions other than 480i. Also you will receive the HD channels in the 70s for a while yet, nobody knows for sure exactly how long but i would think at least a year or two

The HR-20 allows you to set the resolutions your TV can handle - 480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, or 1080i. If you uncheck them all but 480i, you should be fine with a non-HD TV.

The 3 LNB dish will allow you to receive all the MPEG2 channels you are subscribed to, including the "old" national HD channels like HDNet, ESPN-HD, etc.

Welcome to the forums, bogz! :welcome_s

You won't need to deactivate any of the other resolutions; the S-Video and composite outputs are always 480i, no matter what the component and HDMI are set to.

An alternate to the H20 would be the HR20. DVRs rule! :)

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks Tom.

I'm getting 2 HR20's, and possibly 1 H20 (this thread answered that I will get one of those).

I just can't risk losing my option to have DirecTV at the tailgates ;)

Maybe just asking for a switch out of your old 3-LNB would work. Established customers on the average get what they need to get usually for great deals if not free. Plus, isn't Directv going to all expenses to get the old equipment out?

Plus, seeing how you are from Iowa, I'm sure you would want the Big Ten Net in HD, which is only available with the 5-LNB

OP's point was he used a 3lnb for tailgating. Tho getting a 5lnb would work too. :)

I have a 3 LNB dish on my RV and I get HD channels 72 through 79. I don't get the new channels that are on 103.
