If I have basic cable for locals that I can't receive through D* would I just plug the coax into the OTA input on the back of my HR20. Does this work? or do you need to go directly into the TV. If you go direct to the tv you can't click to the channels through the D* remote. I'm not sure some advice would be great.

You'd have to go to the TV. You can program your remote to control the TV. You would need to change the input on the TV to match the input you use for the cable, then you can use the TV to tune the channels.

Thanks for the reply. If I had a antenna I would go directly into the hr 20 right? You'd have to go to the TV. You can program your remote to control the TV. You would need to change the input on the TV to match the input you use for the cable, then you can use the TV to tune the channels.
Yes, the HR20 accepts OTA signals in ATSC format. Cable service is QAM encoded which the HR20 does not support.
