View Full Version : Is there any way to improve OTA signal on HR20?

This is the first time I had this problem because I didn't ever want to record channel 50-2 in my area until now. I am able to watch the channel with my TV tuner but on the HR20 I keep getting "searching..." I found out Hogan's Heroes is on this channel (HDNet no longer plays it) and I wouldn't mind recording it. But, no matter how hard I try, I cannot get it to come in via the HR20 tuner.

The HR20 is not known to have a real spiffy ATSC tuner compared to most current TV's. You'll probably need an antenna amplifier or a larger antenna or both. On the other hand, you could have a defective HR20. Can you not receive any ATSC stations at all on it on either tuner, or is it just 50-2? Are you sure your antenna is pointed at the transmitting antenna?

I have a good antenna, amplifier and rotor. And yes, with the HR20 I pick up about most of the channels that I pick up with my TV Tuner. The channel that I mentioned seems to have a strong signal with the TV tuner. I guess I am stuck with watching the shows live without my HR20 dvr.

I think your tuners performance as of late maybe due to the latest CE. I downloaded 0x1a3 friday night and lost some of my OTA's. When I forced a download after the CE window & went back to the last national release I got those missing OTA channels back

Thanks. Maybe I will try that.

I just reset the receiver and forced the national release and the channel is now playing flawlessly. Thanks.

I hope the next CE doesn't interfere with OTA signals.

A Channel Master 3042/3043/3044 indoor amp might help if your levels are marginal. Also, the transmitter tower for WRDC 50-2 might be to the west near Durham versus south of Raleigh in Garner. It's not listed in antennaweb.org.

I think he was talking about WRAZ (Fox).

WRDC is the MTN network, the NTSC is broadcasted on 28 and ATSC on 28-1. It is transmitted from the Garner antenna tower site.

But to your point, on the 50-2 subchannel we are also receiving the same re-broadcasted WRDC that we get on 28-1.

WRAZ is likely doing this to keep the frequency operational to comply with FCC regualtions and under a joint agreement of some sort with WRDC.

I was actually trying to get RTN which is on 50-2.

I have a channel master 7777 amp setup. I have a six foot connection from the amp's power supply. I was trying to pick up the RTN broadcasts that plays old shows throughout the day. 28-1 has a different broadcast. Today I was my HR20 once again shows ...searching for signal...but on my TV it is clear with not even any pixelation.

Oops, sorry my mistake. RTN versus WRDC.

There is another thread where folks are posting a similar issue with the CE version 0x1a3 and having bad OTA tuner performance. Looks like a software problem.

It's OK. I appreciate you trying to help. Tonight I was watching Hogan's Heroes at 5:30 and the doorbell rings....never got to see the end LOL
