View Full Version : Difference on signal readings. Why?

I have the sidecare dish AT9, and this morning I have noticed something weird with my signals strength. Although all the channels are working fine, I am just concerned about my signals strength on sat 101. I am currently living in a place where it rains often. Therefore I am concern with rain fading.
On sat 101 on my receivers and especially on my R15. I have good signals on even transponders (95 range) and lower readings on odd transponders (77-85). I have better reading on my HR20 for sat 101, such as 80-89 for odd transponders

Sat 99 and 103b are fine. I have 99% on sat 99 and a range from 91-97 on sat 103b.

I have the following readings on sat 119 signals go from 75 to 90. Some transponders seems low to me
Sat 110 has 93% range.

Why do i have some transponders with lower readings on the same sat? For example on sat 101 Tp 32 I have 96% and on Tp 17 I have 77-80 % (It seems to me that there is a big difference between Tps)

I was wondering if I do have a bad LNB, a bad Zinwell WB68, moisture in the cables?
I think my dish is properly aligned
If I do have a bad LNB for the AT9 where can I buy the whole 5 LNB by itself.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

Not all of the transponders at 101 and 119 are national, some are spotbeams and you may not be close enough to a particular spot to get a high reading on some. If its really an even vs odd issue that would probably be a lnb or cable/multiswitch issue.

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but i think at 101 there are different satellites co-located. Some satellites use different transponders than others, thus an older sat would give you a lower strength on a certain transponders.
my guess?

So if it's the LNB do you know where I can buy the 5 LNBs by itself? Easier for the install :D

There are two or three different manufacturers for the AT9 LNBs, and I think I read somewhere that they are discontinued. Doesn't mean they are not out there somewhere, however.

I am told that most D* installers here replace the whole dish with a Slimline when an AT9 LNB goes bad.

I don't have the protection plan, so if it's the case I have to pay i think $70
Am I right?

I would call D* and ask about a dish swap, since the new channels are up they might waive the fee, or allow you to sign up for the prot. plan and get a free visit.
