Question 1. I want the total choice extra pack deal. 3 receivers total, 2 HD 1 DVRHD. Price? Do I buy any of these receivers, do they all need leased?
Q2. I have a buddy for the 50 dollar referral, how does that work?
Q3. Why no TBS in the total choice extra package, and can I get that channel or do I have to up to another package?
Q4. how to waive the set up fee of 99, or 199(depending on who ya talk to)
Q5, why won't they remove my old E* equipment for me?
Q6 Once I am a customer, will I screwed if I want to upgrade down the road, or will they work out a deal(major problem I have now with E*)

Q1. Not sure on your price depends what the CSR offers to you I guess. But they would be lease receivers.
Q2. You have to call the referral telephone number to sign up which is 1-866-443-8869 you'll need his account number.
Q3. TBS is in the Choice Extra package.
Q4. Not sure what you mean..there is usually free professional installation.
Q5. Cause it's E* not D*...you can remove the dish just leave the base on the roof so you don't have a leak. You might be able to ask the install tech to do it when he's out. Some will and some won.
Q6. You can change your programming package at any time. As long as you maintain the minimum you are required to have. Like if you get an HD receiver you will have to have HD package and so on. If you upgrade receivers they will generally extend your contract for however much longer they have to.
Hope I answered your questions.

Q1 comment, thats exactly what the CSR's did, they all gave me different offers, so I am really confused about this point.
Q4 comment. Yes install is free, but the actual set-up fee(also listed on the website is 199 bucks.) They told me they would knock it back to 99, which is ok, but i got an IM here and the dude said they will waive it if ya talk to the right person.
Thanx, I get the other answers, and understand them

Q1. When you call it appears it depends on what mood the CSR's are in. Keep calling until you get a price that you are happy with.
Q4 There is no setup fee there is an initial fee for the equipment related to Q1.
Q4 you are confusing a lease upgrade fee with an activation fee. With D* a basic receiver D12 is free if you want a DVR or HDTV receiver you are upgrading the leased receiver the DVR and H20 are $99 for the upgrade fee and the HR20 (HD DVR) is $299.
Q1 the standard fees are $99 for lease upgrade and $299 for a HD DVR upgrade. There is 1(ONE) $100 credit applied to a new customers account against an upgrade. depending on how the CSR phrases this it can be confusing especially if it sounds like one is offering a better deal than another is. CSRs also are given some latitude on programming packages so they can give you credits that will sweeten some deals, all of which can be confusing especially when correct information isn't added to your account and the bill dosen't match promises.

ok, the last thing I hear is, for 2 HD receviers, and 1 HDDVR my total was 199 activation, is that a good deal? Plus there was a big rebate on the HDDVR, i still am unsure if I'll go with the HDDVR or not, may just get all 3 HD RECEIVERS, one more question I was confused about............When I get 3 HD receivers (or 2 and 1 HDDVR) will I pay more for the HD package cuz of this, or is it the same price?

They're only charging you $199 for 2 HD receivers and 1 HD DVR? That's sounds pretty damn good to me.
As for the HD package, that is per account not per receiver. You can plop on as many HD boxes as you want, they are only going to charge you $9.99 a month for HD.

2 HD and 1 HD/DVR for $199 is a decent deal, you're basically getting one of the HD receivers for free. You could possibly get a better deal as some have, but you never know.
You could probably get another $100 bill credit if you pay the $199. Just ask if there are any other credits they could offer to help offset the cost.
HD Access and DVR fee are the same regardless of the # of receivers.
Look at the Plus HD/DVR package and see if it will save you any money. It includes the HD Access fee and DVR fee.

I'd double check that the DVR is the HD DVR and not a SD DVR. Other than that everything else looks good, there shouldn't be any other fees other than those listed afaik.

i have that listed up above in the plus quote. I really like that one, but I'm unsure of the DVR as I never had one b4. Is it worth it to get the HDDVR? Or am I not missin much, I have a 2.5 year old at home, it would be nice to record all her Elmo stuff for playback anytime(which is all the time, lol)

You just answered your own question !
And just think - if there's something on that you'd like to be watching, while she's watching Elmo, you can be recording it so you can watch it when she's asleep !
Once you've had a DVR, it's hard to imagine how you lived without it....

If you have or plan to have HDTV's and can get the HR20 HDDVR, and two HD receivers for $199, thats what I would do. Also if you do it by phone, you can also probably get some additional programming credits. If you know anyone with DTV you can call the referral # and you and the other person can get an additional $50credit. You will need their account #.
Also once you finalize the deal, have the CSR email you a copy of it if possible.
I learned this the hard way.

Projector Guru,
The worst deals are what are posted on their website.
There is a thread all about people doing exactly what you are doing. Click here:
What the Deals are, and what are you being told by CSR? (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=1174192#post1174192)
There is a script in there that people are using to get great deals.
Most importantly you want HD DVR PLUS (HR20) Receivers. Once you have had an HR20, you will not be able to go back to a non-DVR or non-HD.
Just follow the steps.

Question 1. I want the total choice extra pack deal. 3 receivers total, 2 HD 1 DVRHD. Price? Do I buy any of these receivers, do they all need leased?
the only benefit to leasing comes if you expect to quit after your commitment, and want to sell the equipment...or if you plan on routinely deactivating receivers to save $5 a month.
Q2. I have a buddy for the 50 dollar referral, how does that work?
he must call a specific number and give your account number to the CSR
Q3. Why no TBS in the total choice extra package, and can I get that channel or do I have to up to another package?
If you don't get it, you probably have a local TBS station, in which case you may not get the national feed. Otherwise, It's included in everything but "family"
Q4. how to waive the set up fee of 99, or 199(depending on who ya talk to)
polite negotiation.
Q5, why won't they remove my old E* equipment for me?
1: not theirs
2: they get a lot of call-backs to return the LNB, which E* typically demands when you terminate service.
3: they have to carry it in their truck, then dispose of it.
Q6 Once I am a customer, will I screwed if I want to upgrade down the road, or will they work out a deal(major problem I have now with E*
I'm sure they have formulae to decide what you're worth. It's a business, and if they're going to lose money on you, they aren't going to want you as a customer. D* seems to get you up front more than other companies, but make it so that after the upfront, there's less conthly. I've seen a lot of math here to indicate that.

Q4. how to waive the set up fee of 99, or 199(depending on who ya talk to)
If you are not currently a customer with D*; the best deal you will get is HDDVR's 299, HD receivers 99. 1 instant 100 rebate. Up to 4 standard receivers free. Standard Definition DVRs 99. I'm in the new customer sales dept. We all have access to the same offers. Calling over and over will not help. Best extra you can get is 100 in bill credits. If any one is offering you anything else, they have no idea what they are talking about. There's lots of nubes lately. :nono:
Q2. I have a buddy for the 50 dollar referral, how does that work?
If you are being referred have his account number. The number you call will most likely not matter. You will get $10 off your bill for 5 months.
Total Choice no longer exists. The new pack is Choice Extra 64.99 with Hd included/ 69.99 with Dvr service included called Plus Hddvr. TBS is included.
Aside from add on deal of 100 in bill credits usually applied as 10 off for 10 months and 10 off for 5 months with the referral discount. You have the choice of the 2 normal new customer promos. 5 off for 1st 4 months or 79.99 for Sunday Ticket with Premiere. Remember the extra 4.99 lease charges. Over all with all your savings you'll have over $290 in savings with bill credits and instant 100 rebate. When you add it up over the long run, you can get a single HR20 HDDVR for $10!!!:D Plus you should get a free gift. Most probably a Portable DVD player.
Q5, why won't they remove my old E* equipment for me?
As far as I know they usually do. Depends on the installer I guess...
Q6 Once I am a customer, will I screwed if I want to upgrade down the road, or will they work out a deal(major problem I have now with E*
Since you are leasing most upgrades are covered.;)

Question 1. I want the total choice extra pack deal. 3 receivers total, 2 HD 1 DVRHD. Price? Do I buy any of these receivers, do they all need leased?HD receivers are $99 each. An HD DVR is $299. Standard installation is free. There is a one-time $100 discount (or instant rebate?) available. So to start with, you'd be looking at $397 for equipment, but as is being posted in some responses, that can sometimes be negotiated. I'll caveat that by saying the working of deals is much more difficult now that they have lit up the new satellite and demand has increased. I'd start by figuring $397 plus tax, and anything else you can get them to drop price-wise is gravy. The post you posted showing the DVR and $199 cost indicates an SD DVR, not an HD DVR.
Q2. I have a buddy for the 50 dollar referral, how does that work? There is absolutely a specific phone number you have to call. The "rules" on how this works need to be followed pretty specifically for this to be done. They should be posted on directv.com. I've seen numerous posts here where people have tried to do this and missed a step here or there and didn't get the referral discounts.
Q4. how to waive the set up fee of 99, or 199(depending on who ya talk to)See #1
Q5, why won't they remove my old E* equipment for me?Already covered - liability issues.
Q6 Once I am a customer, will I screwed if I want to upgrade down the road, or will they work out a deal(major problem I have now with E*)One thing to keep in mind. Once your equipment is actvated, you are agreeing to a two-year programming commitment that comes with a $12.50 per month early termination fee. Your commitment is to keep at least the Family Pack programming package. If you want to upgrade in the future, your account history plays a pretty big part, so on-time payment each month is a big factor. Also, any upgrade you do in the future (equipment-wise) will restart the clock on your commitment. An SD receiver carries a one-year commitment, and they run concurrently. So if two months from now you add an SD receiver, that comes with a one-year commitment, but that one will expire before your 'current' two-year commitment does, so your commitment period is still two years from right now. If six months from now you add an SD DVR or any HD equipment, that comes with a new two-year commitment, so you would essentially be commited to 2 1/2 years from right now (or two full years from when you add the new equipmment). Just so you are fully aware of that.
