Yesterday a "$" appeared on the channel banner on the Packers vs. Vikings HD channel. When I selected the channel to record, the price was $0.00. No other Sunday Ticket/Superfan channel had the "$." I had access to the channel and was able to watch and record it. So what's the point?
I recorded it so that I could keep switching back and forth between that game and the single live buffer. The problem was when I went to switch back to the recording in progress, there was about a 10-second pause while "Please wait..." appeared on the screen before I was able to get to the screen and resume watching the recording. That had never happened to me before; the switch is usually instantaneous. It makes me wonder if that bogus "$" had something to do with it, like the system was treating it like a PPV event and checking to see if I had access to it.
In any event, I thought I would circumvent the issue by hitting the "Prev" button on the remote, as I frequently use this to switch between live TV and a recorded program. I switched from live TV to the recording without a problem. Then Favre threw his record-setting 421st TD pass, and I wanted to see it again. However, when I hit rewind, I realized that the HR20 box was locked up. Frozen. I couldn't FF/rewind, change channels, bring up the menu screen, or even shut it off. It was locked up tight. I knew if I did a RBR, it would take 10 minutes to reboot, so I was forced to watch the Packers channel nonstop until halftime (not being able to change channels during commercials) so the recording could continue uninterrupted and I wouldn't miss any of the game. I successfully did a RBR at halftime which unlocked the machine (and the recording immediately resumed after the 10 minute reboot). However, it continued to do the "Please wait..." thing for 10 seconds when I went to switch to the recording, and I was much too scared to use the "Prev" button, lest the box lock up again. So I pretty much had to stick to the live broadcast, only changing channels briefly during commercials so I wouldn't miss anything from the Packers live broadcast.
I don't know if this ever happened to anyone before or how on earth that "$" symbol got on that channel when it wasn't on any other channel banner, but I just thought I'd share my experience in case it happened to anyone else.
GO PACKERS!!! :D
