View Full Version : The 101 just showed a show in HD

I was flipping channels and noticed that the show the My World Project on the 101 was in HD. It looked great, was definitely in HD and 16x9 format. I am using the national release sotftware on an HR20-700. I do not have two 101 channels in my list either, just one. I know there was some testing on Animal Planet HD on the 101 but I see no mention of real HD programming before I saw this.

I don't see Animal Planet HD. I do not have a duplicate HD 101 channel. I saw an actual full HD 101 show on the 101 channel. The same channel I watched is showing Passions right now in SD. I do not have the CE release. I haven't ever seen AP on the 101.

If you filter to the HD channels only guide the 101 is present.

What is interesting is that the DirecTV website for HD, under coming by the end of the year (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=P4360044), 101 is listed. Please speculate on this one!?

So, am I looking at the MPEG 2 channel 101 and the "new" 101 that is coming is MPEG4? So the 101 has been HD all along with occasional programming. Why isn't it counted as an HD channel? Comcast would. This stuff is confusing and hurts my brain.

I think that's a good guess. Any HD on 101 is most likely MPEG 2.

i am now seeing the animal planet hd channel but the video is frozen on it, just gives info about the program, and the live buffer.

I am seeing the freeze frames here also. But the channel 101HD only shows up on my HR20, I do not see it on the H20.

I too have 101HD in my HR20 guide. But it is showing Animal Planet HD at the moment. Also, something strange is going on with the guide and this channel.

If I go directly to the channel by pressing 101 on the remote, the channel comes on. If I then hit the Guide button, the guide comes up and places the highlight on the SD 101 channel. Arrow up and there's 101HD. This is repeatable.
