Hi ...

I was wondering if people could elaborate on the history of DBS ... I read somewhere that originally RCA and CBS had plans for DBS.

My questions are: How many players were involved initially?
How did DTV end up with the slots/tps they have now and the same question for DISH?
How did DISH end up with four slots and DTV 3?

How did DTV end up with only 3 tps at one slot and 32 on another and 11 on another?

Who gave out these slots/tps and in what denominations were they given/auctioned out in 3's? :hi:

Read the book "Cutthroat -High Stakes & Killer Moves on the Electronic Frontier" by Stephen Keating. It's a facinating read!!

My only exposure was back 1991. I was an EE student at the U of Minnesota.
Part of our senior design class included guest lecturers. Some guy came in with a device that looked like an ice cream cone with no ice cream. The top was covered flat. He started talking about their plans for a satellite TV service, they just needed to get sats up with enough power for a small reciever. Their target was to make the equipment cost as much as a VCR. Don't know what company he was with.
