Recently I have had some issues with a diplexed OTA and new satallite. Long story short, they ran a new line into my HR20 and there is no signal on any OTA channels.

Just a week ago I had 6-7 with great reception.

So, has anyone had an OTA tuner fail on there HR20?

Does that sound like what this is?

Well there are two OTA tuners. Both being bad sounds more like the cable you had run isn't going to your antenna or is a bad cable.
What do you see under the OTA setup menu for signal levels and whether the tuners pass test?
You may need to follow the cable and see where it goes and what it goes into. Also see where it's connected to on the back of your HR-20.

The OTA Tuners on this box are very bad quality, I have been having nothing but problems with both of my hr20's. when i connect to the tv directly, I always get 95%+ when I connect to the hr20 it comes in between a lot lower, 70-80, It will jump up into the 90s then go back to no signal. Picture is crystal clear when bypassed, but I can't record anything on them, because when the hr20 has the signal more than 1/2 the time there is no picture. Two boxes doing the exact same thing, I actually got a tech to take a look at it when installing my 5lnb dish and he just shook his head. I personally believe the tuners in the box are junk. Its kind of disheartening to have to tape most of my shows in SD, when I have Perfect HD feed coming into the tv. I work 2nd shift when I come home I just want to enjoy a nice tv show. Sad, so sad.

The tuners are actually pretty good, sensitivity-wise, but they do not deal with multi-path well. If you do some antenna tweaking, the tuners can perform very well. Its up to you if you really want to be able to use your HR20 to record OTA, or you can just stand around and complain about it which accomplishes nothing.

can you install the OTA coax into your TV...if it has a tuner that is..or another
tv or vcr & see if it works there :)

He already has done that, hence the reason he states the HR20 OTA tuners are so bad....I get every OTA channel on my HR20 as good as my tv after I did some tweaking.

Don't think it's the line in. The installer ran a line directly to the tv, through my door to the box.

The problem isn't that it gets poor reception, there is 0 on every tuner and channel.

So, I plugged it into my TV, and I couldn't get any channels in.

I think it must be the Antenna itself. Is it possible for these to fault? It is the kind that DTV installs, it's a Wingard, NOT the one that they strap onto the dish.

Thanks.

I'd guess that it isn't connected at the antenna. Since an antenna is passive, there isn't really anything to break. It's just a "bunch of metal". Even if it was pointed somewhere it shouldn't, there should be a low level signal if it was connected.

it was connected. it's a very strange situation, and i just don't think I'lll figure it out.

It sound like it is shorted where the center conductor is in contact with the shield.

One of the greatest inventions (aside from air conditioning) is the old rabbit ears. You can get them as low as $9.99-$14.99 at various places. Look for one with the 75 ohm coax already attached.

Plug it in directly into back of HR20, be sure to scan for off air channels again and see what you get.

That will let you know if the HR20 tuners see anything and help eliminate whether its the receiver or antenna system.

I have a H20 doing exactly the same thing. It's hooked up to an antenna the same as my HR20 which works fine. I have a service call scheduled but I'm pretty sure its the H20 because it worked for about a week before dying.
