Been a customer since 1995, best offer from them is $199.00, I thought some people had gotten it for $99.00. Should I go for it or do you think I can get a better offer if I keep trying? It's hard to fork out 200 bucks for something you are borrowing especially since I paid like $800.00 when I bought the HR10 and it was obsolete like 1 1/2 years later.:nono2:

Check out the last couple of pages in this thread, it'll give you some insight as to what kind of deals people are getting now.

I just recently called in and worked a $200 credit to buy at a retailer, best buy/circuit city. I did not go to a local retailer but called back a few days later and talked to another CSR who applied the $200/199 credit to the $199 offer. I received a HR20-100 for just shipping $19. I now have 1 HR20-700 and 2 Hr20-100, don't know if it will work again but worth a try.

I'm not trying to be mean or a jerk - and this is really more a general population question than just for you - but how is ownership of the HR10 working out now?

I see the complaints by people about paying $200 for "something they don't own" when they paid $X for a receiver X monhts/years ago and it's basically obsolete now. I paid $1000 for my first HR10 in June '04. It died a couple of weeks ago. So now, you can get an HR20 for $200. If that dies, it gets replaced, all be it with a new commitment, but it still gets replaced.

All of us who had service prior to March 2006 (aside from some deals that were done) paid something for a receiver to receive the satellite service. There was still an up-front cost for equipment, and generally more than what we now pay for a lease on similar equipment. I guess I don't really have a problem paying for equipment up front versus some $10 or $15 a month 'equipment' charge that some services charge.

I won't fault people for trying to get a deal (though some take it WAY too far for my taste), but from where I sit, $200 isn't too bad a deal for an HD DVR either. I've got no numbers or research to back this up, just a gut feeling, but I'm guessing there are a lot more people who will use their equipment until it dies - or upgrade it to a different model - than those who will sell their old equipment. So I just don't see the hate for the fact that you pay something (generally far less than under the 'ownership' scenario) up front for the equipment and don't actually own it - when it will likely get used until it dies or until you cancel service anyway.

Well, I really didn't want to get into all of this but the main problem I have is $200.00 for gaining HD. I'm not going to get into what I'm loosing, those uf us who have both an HR10 and a HR20 will understand. That's what makes this such a hard decision, I love the HR10 but it doesn't do HD.

Do you have the protection plan?

If you do, and it 'breaks' they will replace it w/ an HR20.

Here are the latest deals people are getting:

What the Deals are, and what are you being told by CSR? (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=1185473#post1185473)

They are still getting $19 deals in some cases.

Follow the script Getting a Good Deal on the HR20 (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=839938#post839938) in that thread and you should get either the $19 deal or enough credits to offset most of your cost.

Your best deal will depend on your Hearts rating, current equipment, etc.

Wait a month or two and get the new HR21. The H21 is a big improvment over the H20 so just wait and get the HR21.

I got my HR10-250 replaced with an HR20-100 for free. I got a 2nd HR20-100 for $199.

I was, however, out of contract, so they probably wanted to deal with me.

The HR21 doesn't seem to have OTA. So it's not a big improvement in every way.

YOU ARE THE MAN!!! This absolutely works. I called and spoke to a wonderful Lady whose name I remember well. we spoke for a few minutes and bingo, $50.00 for the receiver, 19.95 for shipping and 6 months free HD access ($60.00) so that's a grand total of $9.95. Thanks Craig.

Huh ? How so? It's a watered down version of the H20 for the same price.

FWIW I spoke with retention and they did the upgrade for free, not even $19. 2 year contract extension, of course... No arguing required.

I have an HR20-700 and an R15. The R15 audio has been going out lately and since I have the protection plan, thought about calling it in to see about getting another HR20. I have hesitated because its not leased so I am not paying that ridiculous monthly fee.

Two questions. First, would they swap an R15 that is not working properly with an HR20 or make me pay the upgrade fee. Second, I only have to pay 1 HD access fee, correct? Not for each receiver. That would seem ridiculous.

Thanks!

Correct about the access fee, just one charge, not sure about the swap though.

Strange how they decides who pays what .i exchanged my bad hd-tivo at best buy for the hr20, called D* to set up my install of 5 lnb dish and they offered me a 2nd hr20 for just $19.99. this was back in MAY. Then in september i had a problem with my dish ,called directv and they offered me 2 more free HR20s to replace my last 2 hd-tivos because of the new HD channels that were coming on line. i've been with directv since dec, of 94

If all you have is the one R15 and you replace it with an HR20 (resulting in still only having one receiver on your account), you will still not pay an additional $4.99 a month - or what I'm assuming you are calling "that ridiculous monthly fee". That $4.99 is the monthly charge for mirroring programming to additional receivers on your account and is not charged on the primary receiver - whether leased or owned. So if you do swap and just end up with an HR20 on your account, you will not have to pay the $4.99 "leased receiver" fee as you only have the primary receiver on your account.

That being said, if you do upgrade to an HD receiver/DVR, you will be paying a $9.99 a month HD Access Fee that you are not paying now.

I don't think they will generally swap an SD DVR for an HD DVR even with the PP since the PP really doesn't have anything to do with it. But that's not to say that you couldn't call and tell them your R15 is no longer meeting your needs (or is dying) and you wanted to see what kind of deal you could make to upgrade to the HR20. That would also include the new dish you will need. Can't hurt to try.

Good luck with your decision.

YES!!! Great deal - I'm sitting here genuinely happy for you! :)

By the way, my arsenal includes two HR10-250s (even after #1 died :(), an 80-hour SD-TiVo and five HR20s. Yup, you're gonna like it and I really do believe you're gonna be VERY happy you made the move.

Way to go, sir!
