Extra little mount?

I've seen a few slimline installs recently. What is the deal with the extra little pole from the mast to the mounting surface? Is this to help with wind? My dish didn't come with one. I tried searching, but I don't know what to call this. Any info would be helpful.

Never mind. These are called Monopoles. I found some.

I know when they installed mine this week, the installers used 2 of them..they did a very good installation and I helped :)
They are used for dish stability especially for periods of high wind with the larger dish surface.
