I currently have 2 boxes in my house. A Series 1 SD TiVO upstairs and an HD receiver in the basement. Each has 2 RG6 cable runs. The HD receiver also has a run for the antenna.

The HR20 install guide recommends running 4 RG6 cables. Is that 4 just for the HR20? If so why is that? Will my current setup be sufficient?

The HR-20 currently needs 2 RG-6 runs from the dish + one for your OTA (if you have one).

Ok, so the 3 runs I currently have to my basement (where the HR20 is going) should do it then? I figured as much, but the installation tips pdf is ambiguous and does not indicate why 4 runs are recommended.

Thanks

Well from a practical standpoint, the three are listed as above plus one for a spare.

From a I have way to many DVR's standpoint, runs each to 2 DVR's. But of course that leaves you with no OTA. At least until the SWM is available then you will be able to have 4 DVR's with OTA at that location.:)

Fair enough then :)

What is the SWM? Is it some sort of multi-switch?

SWM = Single Wire Multiswitch. Tons of info on it in the Cutting Edge forum.

Okay so I'm confused. Do you need 4 cables ran? I have an install scheduled for Tuesday. I already have two cables coming from the dish for my SD Direct Tivo which I'm keeping. They are upgrading me to the HD DVR and new dish. So I will have the HD DVR, SD Tivo and regular receiver (3 in all). I want to know because if 4 cables are needed I have to run a portion of the two new cables because I know the installer won't do what I need to do or will charge extra because it is not considered part of a standard installation. Can someone please let me know. Thanks.

Yes. You need all four (4) line run to a common point. At that point you will then tie in to whatever existing lines you have going to the various locations and/or install the multiswitch at that location.
