Stanford University, Calif. - Last evening almost 400 people said their good-byes to the man who almost single-handedly created the home satellite industry.

Five people from five aspects of Taylor Howard's varied and busy life spoke at the Memorial Service Thursday at the Stanford Memorial Church on the campus he loved. Leonard Tyler, a university colleague, spoke of the many, many sunrises they shared while exploring radio technology. Lance Ginner, who helped assemble the first 20 or so dishes ("Except for the face plate, they probably all had different parts doing different things ... but they worked"), talked of Tay's ham radio love.

A letter from Tay's business partner at Chaparral was read. Chuck Hewitt spoke of their wars together creating and building the back yard reception business. And Tay's son Craig spoke movingly about how his Dad was always looking ahead and going somewhere.

After the service and a family reception, a number of satellite folks gathered at a nearby hotel to remember T.
