View Full Version : Diplex OTA onto dish feed before multiswitch?

Hi guys, I've got a Slimline dish upgrade coming in a couple weeks and have a question about diplexing OTA. I am trying to set things up so that I have 2 multiswitches (one on each end of my house). Someone on these boards has already given me great advice on how to use splitters to take the 4 feeds coming off the dish and send them toward both multiswitches. The problem I have is based on cabling limitations. I have 4 available runs of RG6 to one of the multiswitches and only 3 available runs to the place I want to put the second one. The only way I can get the 4th run over there is to use my existing OTA feed.

Is it possible to diplex OTA onto that piece of RG6 along with the 4th multiswitch feed it would be providing? If so, does it mean I have to put the b-band converter on it first or can I put those on after the signal passes through that multiswitch?

Thanks!

Diplexing before the switch will mess up access to the Ka-lo/Ka-hi for multiple receivers (if it even could be made to operate). Each tuner needs to turn on the BBC when it wants to, and have it off when it wants to. By putting the BBC before the switch, should the switch pass the signal to the BBC, any tuner could turn it the BBC on and all the other tuners would be stuck with that group of signals.

At some point, a SWM will solve that problem as you can diplex at the switch and remove BBCs. We just are not sure the timeline for SWM in your area yet.

Good luck,
Tom
