View Full Version : Can 1 remote be used to control 3 R15/HR20 receivers?

I can make the first receiver respond to the remote with the switch in the D position, the second one respond to the remote in the AV1 position, but I can't get the third receiver to only respond to the remote in the AV2 position. The second and third receivers both respond to the remote regardless of whether the remote is in AV1 or AV2 mode. Is it possible to make one of them respond only to AV1 and the other respond only to AV2?

only if you set 1 to RF

If I'm not mistaken, there are only two different IR codes available. If you switch to RF mode, then it will work.

My 2 HR20-100's did not respond well when in RF mode, so I left both in IR mode, one on D* and the other on AV1. Then I put my one HR20-700 in RF mode on AV2. So far this is working.

Thanks to everyone for the responses and links. Once again the D* design team has strived to disappoint. How hard is it to figure out that if you have a remote with four switch positions, that every receiver should have four possible remote codes?

At least the RF IDs are unique, but even then I don't think that can you program the TV remote position to control a 4th DVR via either IR or RF codes, so they have again unnecessarily limited the versatility of the remote by not allowing it to control four different DVRs despite having four different switch positions on the remote.

Actually the R15 and HR20 use a different code for the 2nd IR code. You should be able to do this:

Pick one HR20 and leave it on the DTV code.

Program the AV1 position of your remote to the 00003 code (which is the alternate code for the HR20). Then set your second HR20 to use AV1/AV2.

Now, program the AV2 position of your remote to the 00002 code (which is the alternate code for the R15). Then set your R15 to use the AV1/AV2 code.

Because the R15 and the HR20 use a different AV1/AV2 code, you should be able to get all three to work without cross-interference.

I discovered that. Strangely the onscreen instructions for my HR20 incorrectly state that the code to use for AV1 or AV2 on an HR20 is 00002, when it is actually 00003. I'm sure that that snafu has caused many people trying to set up an HR20 for AV1 or AV2 hours of frustration and failure.
