Ruh roh - Looks like our friends at D* have a little tweaking (at least I hope that's all it is).
Last night's Blackhawk game was up in HD on CSN-Chicago. I subscribe to NHLCI. But the game on NHLCI was SD, so I switched to CSN-Chicago, AND IT WAS BLACKED OUT!
What good are HD sports channels if we can't watch the games?
Hopefully this was just an early season SNAFU. I couldn't imagine that all the local sportsnet HD games would be blacked out even when subscribing to NHLCI, MLBEI, or NBAFC - right?

Though the Blackhawks game was on the HD channel, it was not in HD. Just SD with black bars on the side. There was probably no real HD for Directv to show.

I might be mistaken, but you probably weren't supposed to see that game in HD. Wouldn't that be a regional HD game received via a spotbeam? I could be wrong about this, but I think a lot of people this year (including myself) are going to be upset about the lack of out-of-market HD games that we cannot get.:(

Others out of the market have reported as being able to get that channel... Just not NHLCI subscribers :nono2:

bluesman - CSN-Chicago is now available everywhere thanks to D10.
I'm thinking that this was just a mistake. They wouldn't provide all the sports nets in HD and not allow the games to be seen.
We'll know for sure tonight - the Bruins are on NESNHD.

Is this a national HD channel?

Ah, okay I didn't realize that. My fault. . .but, something else to think about is whether this channel is in the sports channel tier of programming. Do you subscribe to that?

Then why was I able to watch HD NHLCI games at a friends that has Dish? The NJ @ TB games was in HD along with a couple others.

Like I said - it was probably just a mistake.
And I sure hope they fix it by tonight :)
I can't think of any contractual reason why the away team RSN feeds should be blacked out, but they always have been on D* (whenever the home feed is available) . I've noticed this on MLB and NHL packages.
There must be some reason why they've been doing it and I am little bit afraid that HD availabliity won't be enough to trump it. Let's hope I am wrong.
I think somebody else reported that E* usually carries the home and away feeds. Why wouldn't D*?

Again, the Hawks game was not PRODUCED in HD.
CSN-Chicago is my RSN. The game was in SD on the HD channel.
Dish did show 4 NHLCI matches in HD. Hawks game was not one of them.
I was blacked out of the Panthers/Rangers game in NHLCI Hd for some reason.
I was not blacked out of the sd channel in the NHLCI.
I just watched it on HD Net instead.

D*TV thus far has CHOSEN not to show ANY NHL CI games in HD -- great "free preview"!!!! It appears it will be the same old "occasional" game on 94, etc. AMAZING given all of the new satellite capacity!!!

Yes.. I realize that Dtv can not make things HD that are not being produced in HD. My point was that Dish IS showing HD broadcasts while, for whatever reason only known to them, Direct does not. The programming is being produced... Direct does have the channels available... so what is the problem???

This would also affect NBA fans. I'd guess they'd carry more weigt because there are more of them.

The mysterious situation with HD coverage on CI with D* is the reason I am not going to subscribe to CI. The only votes that really count are the ones done with your wallet. They can have my money if they show a reasonable number of games in HD and provide a reasonable amount of disclosure regarding that question. Until that happens that don't get my money.

Jerry - Right now, it looks like D* will black out all HD sports programming for NBA too.
Really goofy.
Hopefully somebody at D* will help correct this obvious error in judgement.

I too tried to watch the Blackhawks game on the CSN HD channel and it was blacked out. It doesn't matter if it wasn't actually in HD, it shouldn't have been blacked out since the CSN feed was on CI. What's the point of making the RSNs HD nationwide feeds if they can only been seen locally???? I hope this wa a mistake, otherwise it's just plain stupid.

Im not sure how exactly DTV works, but Dish has about 17 NHL HD channels exclusive to CI HD broadcasts. During the times of NHL games, the regular HD RSNs are blacked out, but picked up on the CI HD channels. IF the game is in your local market, you can catch the game where the RSNs are stored and the CI channel will be blacked out. Again, this is for only games in your market. Last night, Dish was supposed to have 4 HD games, but the Colorado game ended up not being broadcast on Altitude HD, so we only got 3. FLA/NYR, TB/NJD and STL/PHX. Dish does provide both feeds for games if available, and sometimes upto 3 if the game is also on TSN or CBC. Thus far the canadian feeds have not been in HD, but hopefully that will change. Later.

Check your guide. All the CI channels have a sub channel for the HD feed. For example channel 764 and channel 764-1. I have a feeling that if D* has the HD feed available for the game we will get it. We will know for sure tonight.

I'm just curious, when did you notice this? I didn't see the sub channels last night. And just to make sure, you're talking about D*.
Edited for poor spelling and grammar.

They are there now, with "to be announced" -- one for each SD channel. You may need to add them to your favorites list if you're using one.
We shall see if they get the subchannels working for tonight's games.

I have Sports Pack and I got the Hawks game on the HD version of 640 (game not in HD obviously). I would expect that even if you have CI you may need the sports pack to get the HD verions of the RSNs.
Tonight will be a good test. Bruins in HD on NESNHD. Assuming CI carries the NESN feed then the HD version should also be available.
Look on the RSNs for the HD games, not in the 700s and see what you find.
The center ice package shows the home team broadcast if available, so last nights chicago game was an away game, therefore CI subsribers were shown the home team broadcast. I would think as more hd rsn's come online with D*, the center ice hd broadcasts will also be available as long as it is the priority broadcast per NHLCI rules.

The Hawks game on CI was actually the away team broadcast from CSN Chicago, not the home team Wild broadcast (on FSN North I'd guess).

Sorry, I guess I had some bad info, last night I was watching CSNCHD until the Blackhawks pregame came on and message 727 appeared about program not availble locally, so I figured that it was a home team broadcast issue.
Sure glad I'm not a Hawks fan.
From the CSN Chicago website:
There are no scheduled Blackhawks games in HD this season.
