View Full Version : Audio Video sync problem

I think it's a known problem, but sometimes when watching recorded programs, if I FF then the audio will be out of sync until I pause for about 3 or 4 seconds to "let the audio catch up". Anyone else having this problem and if so, is there a fix for it?

I'm having it too. As well as random audio dropouts. Funny though, they don't happen during commercials. Only during the actual shows.

I guess I'm always hoping that all of these issues I have are in the software and I remain hopeful that D* will get it all worked out in the future so I don't bug the CSR's about every little problem. Should we be?

I have had these problems in the past. Sometimes they go away by putting the unit in standby, or changing the channel. Sometimes a reset is required. Only once was it unfixable - last week - and I just had to wait a day.

What channels are the problem?

It was MHD last night, but NBCHD the time before. It's not everytime, just sometimes.

Happened to me last night, recording CSI and watching The Office, both HD. The Office was fine until I fast-forwarded (first 3 minutes), then the audio was about 3 seconds behind the video for the entire rest of the show, pausing did not seem to help.... :nono: It did the same thing last week, same recording setup.

Picture quality looked great though! :lol:

Sometimes a reset is required.

Will I lose all of my info? Record Series requests, priority settings, Custom Channel list?

More so with mpeg 4 then mpeg 2 , CNN SD / CNN HD & TWC SD / TWC HD

Yesterday afternoon the Smithsonian Channel was unwatchable. The audio had to have been about 80 frames off from video. It was the worst that I have seen yet.

This problem has been prevalent for over a year now. Does anyone at DTV even care? I'm not intimately familiar with the MP4 specification, but from what I recall every frame of video and audio has a corresponding timestamp. Is it difficult to match them. Something like this algorithm:

if( audioTS != videoTS )
then I'm *(#&$(# doing something wrong here
some_iterative_approach_to_finding_the_right_piece _of_audio_to_go_with_this _video()

I mean seriously. I know it's not that simple, but is it really THAT difficult? Is it really lower on the priority list than nonsense like networking capabilities?

Yes, the audio and video have been out of sync on several HD networks lately (Nat GEO, Science Channel, Smithsonian, etc.). Worst the past 2 weeks.

For the NBC shows, that is coming down that way from network. I have verified it with different equipment, and my friend works at our local affiliate and sees the sync issues there at the station as well.

Ok, but what about all the other networks? Seems to be most of the newer MPEG-4 networks.
