I noticed my HR20 is getting the Outdoor channel. Why would that be? I do not subscribe to a sports pack. I have an older Total Choice Plus package.

My guess would be that they moved it to the lower packages if nothing's changed in your subscriptions.

I am not seeing Outdoor or The Outdoor Channel listed at all in any of the packages on D*s website.

I'm getting it too. They must have moved it out of the Sports Pack and into the Choice packages.

I've been getting the Outdoor channel for many months now. Seems like over a year.

They are having Choice Xtra Free Preview this weekend that could be reason I also have the old Total Choice Plus Package. and it was on showing also on my standard recivers.

I started getting it a few days ago also. I guess they moved it to basic just like Golf and VS last year.

They should move the entire "sports pack" into the Choice package. I can't see paying $12/month for ESPNU, Gol TV, Fox Soccer, and the few other channels that sports pack offers. Plus most of the non-local programming on the RSNs is blacked out anyway.

If they keep on, all the sports channels will be in the TC packages,
SPEED, GOLF, CSTV, VS, TVG all use to be in the sports pack.

The problem with this is the channels still cost D*, so moving them to a different package would necessitate a price increase for that package. This is the reason Comcast and otheres get into fights with NFL Network, and the Big Ten Network about which package the programming will go into.

Since most customers (including yourself) do not care about these channels enough to be to pay for them, D* has made the decision to only charge those cutomers who do.

Spoken like a true DTV employee , sir.

Remember folks DTV promises you nothing... so read the fine print.

Are people still getting STO? I don't see why this would be part of a Choice package as it is an RSN.

I bet the reason why Outdoor was added to xtra paks, (I'm getting it too, on my old TC+ pkg) is because it's supposed to be added in HD, at least according to this:

http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=104057 (post#4)

Since the extra paks obviously have more subs than the sports pak, D* & TOC probably cut this deal to get it moved into a lower tier, so BOTH the HD & SD channels would have more eyeballs. Since D* is tiering their HD channels that have an SD counterpart on a given package, it would not make sense to put TOC on the HD xtra pak, & TOC probably was NOT happy that the ONLY customers that would get either station are the SP subs.

You know the next channel in the SP I bet that gets moved in the x-tra paks - ESPN U, especially considering ESPN wants (& usually gets) ALL their channels in broader tiers, & that E* has it on AT250, which is somewhat equivalent of choice/TC xtra paks. ;)
