If I use the seasonal deactivation feature, will my receiver still show as 'active' on my account? I want to turn it off for a couple of months since I won't be able to watch it, but I don't want to use the seasonal disconnection feature and accidentally get charged $300 by my retailer. I am not under any programming commitment contract with Dishnetwork, but only have this contract with the retailer.

no you must maintain programming or the receiver is no longer shown as active on the account and the dealer will be charged back which means you will most likely be charged by the dealer.
The question comes down to when your receiver is activated. Your retailer is on the hook for 230 days (officially), meaning that if you downgrade or deactivate within that period he will be charged back by E*. But E* has a strange way of determining the date of the DC so most retailers word their agreement for one year (like the E* agreements) to protect themselves. So I wouldn't recommend downgrading before your 1st year is up.

So, seasonal disconnection counts as a deactivation of the main receiver?

OK, so what's the cheapest way for me to keep the receiver active?

You MUST keep at least the $22.99 package for a period of 230 days or there will be backcharge issues to the retailer in which would come back onto you. To be on the safe side I would keep it active just a little longer than this. Contact the retailer. I sure wish all my customers would contact me when they have a problem, I would help them out any way that I could. The retailer may actually lose money, more than what was made, if you would do that.
That is how risky this business has become. It can pay well then it can cause you a loss as well, so we do not make as much as what it seems, because of this risk, overhead, and problems associated. It sure is a lot more headache than I had thought it would be. I sure like the hobby and this business and all business will have some type of problems.

OK, I guess I'll keep the top50 option. Maybe I'll give it to my friend for a little while (atleast somebody should use it). Thanks for all the help, guys.

Your welcome. I dont know if that is really against the business rules if you can do that or not, it may be a gray area. The programming is being paid for and is in one residence, not two at the same time, so its not like stealing programming. I just would not mention it to them to avoid hassles, as long as it is not to harm the company I would think it would be alright. How long have you had programming on the account?
