A year ago, I bought my parents a Panny plasma at Best Buy, and got $400 of the price of the TV for buying a $400 HR10-250 as well. When I activated it, I got about $300 in programming credits from DirecTV, so a good deal to be sure.

I'm curious if they will do this with the HR20? I see it's listed for $300 at BB.com. I'm getting my sister a TV for her new house, and would love to be able to get that $300 off. :p

So, anybody know if Best Buy will still do this deal? Thanks a lot.

I don't know of any such deals but in my experience it's quite easy to get at least 10% discount on any big screen TVs at Sears, Best Buy or Circuit City. Just ask to speak to a manager and ask for a 10% discount. I've done that successfully at Sears for a $3000 TV and at Circuit City for a $4000 TV. Doesn't matter whether the TV is currently on "sale" either.

The markup on TVs is large and the store still makes a profit selling it with such discount.

Thanks, I'll go next week and see what I can get.

My daughter just bought a new TV and an HR20 last month at BB and they gave her $100 off the price of the TV, and possibly some programming. That would be about what new customers would pay for a receiver.

Did she try to get anything else when she called DTV to activate? I'm just curious how the BB process works now...whenever I bought a receiver there in the past, they've never asked me any questions, just sold it to me and in the case where I bought a TV, gave me a dicount. Didn't ask for proof that I was a DTV customer, didn't make me fill out any forms or anything.

This may be true for $3000 TVs, but I'm betting I couldn't have gotten 10% off my 52-inch set that was on sale Thanksgiving weekend for $999.

In the price range most people buy, an awful lot of the store's profit comes from the customers who take the service contract.

Best Buy used to have the best TV prices. Now Best Buy is often more than $100 above Fry's or Costco. This past weekend, Fry's was $2499 for a 73" Mitsubishi 73321. Best Buy was $4999. Best Buy typically will not match Fry's pricing.

Pick your TV and watch your local ads, they often fluctuate greatly over an 8 week cycle.

If Best Buy is the best price you can find on your TV anyway and you were going to buy an HR20 anyway, what do you have to lose? Take the $100 credit.

I would say to still follow the Getting a Good Deal on the HR20 (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?p=839938#post839938) script ahead of time and ask if they could credit your account $100 if you bought locally. Also ask if could they give programming credits or trial offers of the premium channels. Ask them to note your account. Make sure you get their name and the contact info.

Good luck!
